Phantasy Star Online single player

Post by Merz »

I played PSU for a little while and I thought it was alright but I never played PSO. I just got a Dreamcast and with the announcement of PSO2 I figured I would run the the single player for the hell of it. Anyone ever beat the single player mode? Is it really boring or cool?

I've beaten it on single mode through Very Hard, I stopped on ultimate though. Honestly, the game isn't bad, but it's a vastly inferior experience when compared to playing with company. If you only plan on beating the first difficulty or two, then playing it on Single Mode would be alright. At around Very Hard it's starts getting pretty old. Also be careful what class you choose in Single Mode, Androids can't heal without items (that you can only hold a limited number of) and the farther you get in the game the more you'll realize that that is a huge problem. I personally found Single Mode to be the most interesting with human characters, and I fared better with Rangers and Forces (Hunters just take too much damage when you don't have any support).

Yeah, I played tons of single player after my live subscription ran out back then. I thought it was fun, there's a fair amount of replay value too.

It's also worth noting that there are a couple of free servers lying around for the DC, PC and GC versions of PSO if you want to play online. I believe the PC version "Blue Burst" is the most up-to-date version and the Dreamcast version is the most out of date (only includes Episode I).
