Hmm, that's a tough one. I'm not a comic reader so I have to go off the other sources...DC had the best animated series (Bruce Timm is GOD) despite good Marvel cartoons (X-Men, Spiderman and X-Men Evo) but Marvel has the better movies.

Hmm...I'm gonna go with DC; mainly because I just love all the Bruce Timm animated series so much; and Batman Beyond Return of the Joker is my favorite Batman movie of all time.

DC and for the following reasons:

-Jack Knight
-Booster Gold
-Ted Kord
-Jay Garrick
-The entire Justice Society

In summary, DC has more characters that matter, even tertiary heroes. Marvel? They should change the name of their lazy company to 'Wolverine, Incorporated'
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I can honestly say that Bruce Timm, Paul Dini(back when he used to work with him)and other talented people involved in the various shows that spun off of Batman:The Animated Series(like voice caster Andrea Romano)have a LOT to do with my loving DC so much.

Although I can also thank Tim Burton for his great Batman movie and even Adam West for his campy take on him. All of these things would lead me to actually picking up various trade paperbacks and graphic novels based on Batman over the years and also a few books on other DC characters or other important DC stories(like Crisis on Infinite Earths and Identity Crisis)

Wait, is this a poll over which one has pissed me off the most? Because that's a pretty big question these days for me.

For Marvel, there's been Captain America dying, but not really dying, Spider-Man's marriage ending, the entirety of X-Men in the last decade, and major events such as House of M.

For DC, there's been Batman R.I.P. While I realize that's not nearly as many issues as with Marvel, you have to realize that in DC I really only ever read Batman. I considered him the high point of that universe.

So maybe it's a good thing I don't keep up with the current stuff. Whatever I read from Marvel/DC is usually older stuff in trade paperback form

I've heard a few things about Batman R.I.P. from people reading it and everyone has different opinions on it. I will say the idea of he who I won't name for spoiler purposes being the new Batman sounds pretty cool to me and I'm glad Bruce is the one who killed he who I also shall not name for spoiler purposes rather than Superman

Check out my site every Monday where I summarize and review the comics (I bought) from the previous week. It always features Batman related stuff.
As for the Batman (and Mad Men) stuff I highly recommend reading Rikdad's Comic Thoughts!

I picked DC because of what was said earlier - Marvel tries to put themselves in the real world, where DC stays fictional and are heroes we can look up to.
I like the less realism when I read a comic, easier to escape from reality - just like I do with my games. Ill take Mario or Sonic anytime over a hyper-realistic game.

I have no loyalty for one over the other, as I have enjoyed titles from both sides of the camp, but I lean more towards DC because there's more options and they're more willing to break out of the superhero genre by way of Vertigo and Wildstorm (still superhero stuff, but a lot of the titles from this imprint seem more like deconstructions of the genre). Worth noting is the fact that majority of the titles that were praised by those monocle-wearing highbrow art critics came from DC or one of its sister imprints (e.g. Sandman, Lucifer, Watchmen, Preacher, et. al.)

Marvel, on the other hand, seems to focus tightly on their core group of superheroes. Even when they tried (and succeeded, mind you) to come out with more adult titles like the MAX and Ultimate lines, they're still about the usual group of superpuddaduds only written in a more mature way. They're not as prolific as DC when it comes to introducing new franchises.

Either way, the current direction for both companies is something that I can't get behind, since a lot of the mainstream titles have stories that are just tie-ins with the month's BIG CROSSOVER!!!! or a wink-nudge that will help market their recent movie.
