tried to 'tate' but got sick

Post by D.D.D. »

So I tried to 'tate' my TV without actually physically turning the TV. I set the game to 'tate' mode and then I lay down on the floor in the right direction and held the controller the same.
It really worked for 'tate' playing but I felt really disoriented and almost kinda nauseous.
I really gotta get a wall-mount that allows for rotating the TV.

Ghetto TATE!
I've had my fair share of that playing Castle of Shikigami 3.
I just finally got a dedicated TATE television in my living room. I love it, it's easily one of the nerdiest things about me.
It's actually a pretty cool conversation piece.. hehe
I've gotta get my wireless sensor bar back from my parent's house sometime, then I'll be able to rock the Wii shmups in TATE but until then it's AMAZING for Sega Saturn and Dreamcast.

"Tate" (tah-taye) means to stand in Japanese. Since most shumps are from Japan the name carried over to the domestic scene too. So you go from standard horizontal mode to vertical in tate mode. :)

For awhile I had a rig in my bedroom for vertical shmups, but thanks to college, that is no more : (

So, then why isn't horizontal mode called suwate mode?

I guess I'm strange. When I want to play Tate I just lift the side of the TV and turn it 90°.

Haha, your reasoning is good but there's a couple meanings to tate. One meaning could be vertical or to literally stand up.

I know you're just joking around. I just wanted to follow up my meaning a bit more. :)

I've got a cheap little 13'' tv that I can do that with. But I wouldn't dare try that with my 30'' CRT in the living room. That sucker weighs about 200 lbs! :D

I'm sure it would be good excercise.
