I have had the unfortunate displeasure of having a go at Rapelay (and Bonetown). Bonetown is mildly amusing, like the Leisure Suit Larry Games but with no payoff. Rapelay is just an example of a very disgusting sub-genre of games. Let's face it -- the vast majority of the gaming community is made up of men. Men will generally say "it's not that bad", "there are worse things out there", "it's just sex", or worse, "it's funny", "where's your sense of humour", and "it's just rape".
While I support anyone's ability for self-expression and the ability to make any game that they want, as a woman I understand the horror of rape. The days, months and years of emotional turmoil, being unable to have sex, even the fear of just walking down the street. It's something that's hard to joke about (though jokes are possible..George Carlin does a very good bit about rape), but it's hardest of all to see the men (boys?) in the gaming community try and pass rape off as something not that bad. It *IS* bad. Yes, there are worse things out there that people do to other people, but don't use that as an excuse to downplay rape.
Sure it's not offensive to *everyone*, but it's offensive in terms of what's offensive to the average person, which is why I imagine it makes that kind of "top 10/whatever" list.
The 15 Most Offensive Video Games Ever Made (PC World)
Re: The 15 Most Offensive Video Games Ever Made (PC World)
It is fictional. Also I see you are located in Canada... which just so happens mean that at the time you played rapelay, if in Canada, violated child pornography laws. You seem pretty against this sort of thing. I hate the rape/mind break/netorare/ etc. genre of japanese doujinshi and games. But it is pretty common in Japanese doujinshi and ero games.

She doesn't necessarily have to actually play the game to be fully aware of what it is and what the gameplay entails.

I'm not against the game (I tried to make that clear.) I'm against the downplaying of rape as something that "isn't that serious" or "isn't that bad".
It is.
I've played the game, as anyone should who wants to make any real commentary on it. You can't just judge the game from the description everyone gives you. It's gross and deviant sure, but it takes all types of games and all types of gamers to make the industry go 'round.

Fictional rape isn't bad.

The confrontational tone is because...?
Re: The 15 Most Offensive Video Games Ever Made (PC World)
Because I read the post, and the wording used describes actually playing the game. And you didn't.
