Best emulators on DS

Post by swiftzx »

I recently got a DS flash cart and would like to know what are the best emulators? I like nesds and lameboy, but couldn't get neods to work. What are some worth to have? Btw I don't own a psp to emulate.

Don't bother with any SNES emulators. The layering problems make them a waste of time sadly. Megadrive emulators like jEnesis are okay but don't fit the screen properly.

FrodoDS is a nice C64 emulator for disk images if you like it even more old school but some ROM's run a little slow in it. and ZXDS does nice ZX Spectrum emulation. My faivorate is xroar which emulates the old Dragon 32k computer I had as a kid.

Outside of NESDS and Lameboy I don't use any other emulators for the same reasons above.
If you have a DS Lite (or phat), then get the 3-in-1 GBA adapter - I use that all the time! :)
So for NES, GB, GBA, and DS games, 4 systems on the DS-L is pretty nice.

(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Same here. Other than NesDS and Lameboy, I've been underwhelmed with emulators on the DS and have pretty much given up on them. Keep working on NeoDS if you like Neo Geo games though. I haven't tried it, but I've heard that one is very good.

Ditto on NeoDS. I kinda lost interest when I heard you had to format the roms for the emulator... might have changed though.

NeoDS is AMAZING. Seriously, it's incredible that the DS can handle games like Garou:Mark of the Wolves and Waku Waku 7 with such ease. Having to reformat the ROMs into specialized formats is a very, very small price to pay.

I found more than enough SNES games to be fully playable to make it worth my while. Likewise with the Genesis/MD. Do not expect to play everything on them, but they do work well enough to have some fun with them. I played right through Golden Axe I, II, III, the Streets of Rage Games, Revenge of Shinobi and Shinobi III, Thunder Force III, Phantasy Star II, IV, and Shining Force I and II without trouble. On the SNES, I got through the Final Fight games, Parodius Da!, Super R-Type, R-Type III (a few issues, but it is playable), and Gradius III. The sound issues and layering issues on the SNES, as mentioned, do hinder a lot of games unfortunately. Final Fantasy III and Earthbound are just about unplayable for those reasons.

I've heard there is a PC Engine/TG-16 emulator now, but it is reletively new I guess so I haven't given it a chance yet. Hopefully it plays stuff like Blazing Lazers, Soldier Blade and the Bonk games well!

You know, if NeoDS can scale down to DS resolution I don't see why Jenesis can't. Oh well...

And I wish NesDS was a little better. Can't play Duck Tales with the corrupted graphics.

I have heard that SpeccyDS is quite good.

I've tried the Tg-16 emulator; nitrografx. It works great on all the games you've listed :D I got Neods to work (Gotta love them SNK fighters) and am going to try out StellaDS( Atari 2600 emulator).

Give the Game Gear/Sega Master System emulator a shot. It's got a similar face to Jenesis only the SMS games fit the screen perfectly. No scaling needed. Game Gear obviously fits as well. The name of it is ApprenticeMinusDS
