i have spent about a week trying beat the 7th level boss in gaiares. but it ain't happening. so i decided to take a break from it and play road avenger. what pissed me off about the game was distinguishing between turbo and brake. turning left or right was easy because the arrows appeared on the left or right side of the screen; you see something yellow on the left and you turn left. almost like a reflex. but the fucking turbo and brake appeared at the exact same position on the screen. so you actually have to read what it says - turbo or acceleration - before you actually can press the appropriate button. overall, the game isn't good, but it isn't bad.
if you took a shit, please put it back

Viewtiful Joe is a good game I didn't like. It felt to me like the game was full of petty annoyances that just built up to make the game feel like a bit of a chore to me. The fact that there was very little enemy variation didn't help either. However, there were bits I really enjoyed, and I do like the mechanics of slowing down and speeding up time. Some of the puzzles created with these were kinda cool. All in all, I'd say this game was OK, but not great.

Wario Land Shake Dimension (Shake it! in the US) was great though. I played it once before and couldn't get into it, but I gave it a bit more time this time round and it really grew on me. The animation is fantastic, the music is awesome and the gameplay is really fun. It's kinda short, but I wouldn't let that dissuade you if you feel like purchasing it, it's great, and it's a shame it's such a forgotten platformer on the Wii.

Only 3 letters left in the Alphabet marathon now! X-Scape, Yoshi's Island DS and Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest to go!

First 50 Games for 2010 (Click for names)
New Super Mario Bros. - DS

I did'nt enjoy this game as much as I had hoped, I have been playing it a level at a time (Generally while on the toilet) for the past 6 months. Fairly average, I thought Gianna Sisters DS was leaps and bounds better than this.

I am also on the last level of Super Mario World, need to finish that to add her to the list.

1. Phantasy Star (GBA)
2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall Of The Foot Clan (GB)
3. Super Mario Bros. 2 (GBA)
4. OutRun (GBA)
5. Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival (GBA)
6. Mortal Kombat II (GB)
7. Viper Phase I (arcade)
8. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time (SNES)
9. Missile Command (GB)

...I didn't expect to beat Missile Command, but it's abnormally short. I don't get it. How is this the full game? Weird. I remember it being way harder on Atari 2600 when I was a kid. I know it was at least somewhat harder on GBC cuz I played that one recently. Anyway, I wish I had jotted down my high-score, but the game just ends really abruptly. Oh well.

I took Missile Command (GB) off my list. I think I just hit a glitch last night, since all sources that I can find say there should be no way to "win" the game. However, my game definitely ended before my cities were destroyed. So...

First 80 games
Super Quick Hook - iPhone *new*
Monster Mayhem - iPhone *new*
TOTAL: 82

The iPhone has so many quality games on it... I can't believe that I used to write it off!

I played through Super Quick Hook and found it to be much more challenging that Hookchamp. The last two levels in particular were nearly impossible. I consider it to have one of the hardest last levels of any game I've ever played! It was very satisfying to finally beat it though. The graphics really reminded me of gaming on my SNES as a kid, which was a total bonus IMO.

Monster Mayhem was my first Halloween themed game this month. It's a castle defense game that has a ton of different weapons and upgrades, many different enemy types, and some seriously entertaining boss fights. I actually picked it up for free last week, but I think it usually runs for something like $1.99. Here's a gameplay video for anyone who is interested in some cheap, fun Halloween gaming.

3D Space Tank DSiWare
Yoshi's Island DS DS

Total: 51

3D Space Tank (known as X-Scape in the US) was my X game for my alphabet marathon, and is the sequel to Japan-only 3D Space shooter X. After playing through this, I really wish that the original had come out here. 3D Space Tank was really fun after getting used to the dodgy controls, and I'd rate it as one of the best games on DSiWare, and one of my favourites on DS in general.

Yoshi's Island DS however, isn't on the top of my DS favourites list. Its not a bad game by any means, but it seems that Artoon, faced with the development of a Yoshi sequel decided to just copy the original one to the letter (seriously, some of these levels are VERRRRYY similar, and even in similar parts of the game. At some points I was literally going "the next level will have skiing, the next level will have me riding upwards on balloons, the next level will be a VERY LONG annoying forced scrolling level" and I was getting it RIGHT). They also took out some of the coolest stuff from the original, like the yoshi transformations, and the machine gun melons. Ok overall, but not a patch on the original.

That leaves ONE more game on my alphabet marathon, and then I'm kinda at a loss as to what to play next! Next up: Zelda Ocarina of Time Master Quest!

alienjesus, I have to say that I really love the idea of going through the alphabet and I commend you for sticking with it as long as you have! As for what to play next, I'll scour your Backloggery and get back at you with some ideas. :)
