Hello,
I just installed a modchip into my saturn (A+B signal method, sanyo board).Whenever I go to boot an original it boots fine, but when I go to boot a burn, It keeps seeking the protection ring and just dumps me to the cd player. Is the chip broken, or could something else be wrong? Thanks!
Edit:I Just reseated the board and now all discs are kicking back to the cd player when the chip is inserted.

I think this is racket's fault. If you look at this page: http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2005/06/ ... oting.html, he has the following quote:Hobie-wan wrote:Post #1,427,113 about chip issues on a Saturn.![]()

That was fine and dandy back in 2005 but 5 years later, it should be revised to say something like "Please check this troubleshooting thread in the forums with a link to the page", then something like post a response to this thread if you're still having trouble....racketboy wrote: If you still need help, just post comments below or in the technical help forums and I’ll try to help you out. The forums will be your best bet as I will probably respond sooner and you will have many other knowledgable members at your service as well.

Re: Saturn Modchip not functioning on a us model 2 saturn
Haha, well the reason I joined this board in the first place was because I had issues with my Saturn chip and was seeking help. So, I guess it's a good way to get people sucked in.
A main problem I had was with the chip not getting power because the wire kept coming loose. The other day I finally opened my Saturn back up and pretty much filled the little plastic cup with solder. That bitch is goin' NO-WHERES.
So if the discs aren't spinning at all anymore, then that could be the issue.
...the other problem I had was running the Saturn through RF *thumbs down*

We should put a thread together with the first post answering all common Saturn mod chip trouble shooting questions and whatnot. People should be advised to read through it before posting for help. I bet 9 times out of 10, it would help the person out with out having to post.
Second, when you reseated the chip, is it possible that you made a loose connection in the power wire or ribbon cable? Obviously, check all that and reset the chip again and also reset the ribbon cable. Try and get retail discs to work again.
Now, as far as the CD-R not booting - Chances are good that the chip was working fine but the CD-R was burned wrong. Nine times out of ten, this is the case.

First up, can you be sure that you properly bridged A to B. And are you sure that wire from A+B is getting power (properly soldered)?IsakaTenshou wrote:Hello,

Are you still doing that? It's dead easy to turn your Saturn RF into composite cables.EllertMichael wrote:...the other problem I had was running the Saturn through RF *thumbs down*

No no no, I jumped one one of those $10 S-Video cables from eBay. I'm very happy with it, looks great! I went from RF to Composite to S-Video. Looking back it was actually nice to play a bit on each, I feel like I appreciate the S-video output even more so now then I would had I always had the S-Video.

I totally removed the wire and used a direct solder bridge from A to B.Ziggy587 wrote:First up, can you be sure that you properly bridged A to B. And are you sure that wire from A+B is getting power (properly soldered)?
It's being really random as to when it will work and when it won't. I have the +5v soldered directly to the +5v rail on the PS. It will either do one of these three things:Ziggy587 wrote: Second, when you reseated the chip, is it possible that you made a loose connection in the power wire or ribbon cable? 1) boot retails fine, but CD-Rs won't (The CD-Rs worked with the swap trick)
2) nothing boots, it just kicks straight to the cd player
3) the drive doesn't function at all (no disc spin up, no laser movement, as if it wasn't connected)
When I totally remove the chip, It goes back to normal (retails boot, swap trick for cd-rs)
The CD-Rs I'm using to test it all worked with the swap trick, so I don't think it's the burnsZiggy587 wrote: Now, as far as the CD-R not booting - Chances are good that the chip was working fine but the CD-R was burned wrong. Nine times out of ten, this is the case.

thats a good concept Ziggy , maybe even have a dedicated Thread where people who are having problems post in that Thread and wait for help.
