Re: NES > Famciom Controller adapter made by me
From what I remember hearing from Emiliano, (1337Mhz) just a standard DB-15 cable can be used instead, and those can be found for much cheaper. Is there anything speical about the Neo Geo cable?
Re: NES > Famciom Controller adapter made by me
Yeah, the Famicom or NeoGeo controller port has recessed pins so you need a cable with a longer female plug. Not sure if you can find a DB-15 plug like that, but I've sure as hell have never seen one.

This. If it goes well, a source of supplemental income. You could even advertise on a couple other Retro gaming sites as well as here.Ziggy587 wrote:Hell, maybe I'll make it and throw it up on eBay for a steep BIN price and see what happens.

Eh, probably not. If there was a market for it, and I didn't have to shell out so much cash to make one, then maybe I wouldn't mind making them to sell on a regular basis. But I just don't see them selling good, and they cost too much to make.
But I just thought of another great idea for any one that wants to use NES pads on a Famicom. You can just get two NES extension cables and that's it. Open the console up and disconnect the hardwired controllers, then wire the NES extension cables up to the console and route them out the back where the original Famicom controllers were going. So instead of having the wire for the controllers coming out the back of the console, you could have a wire coming out with a NES control port instead.

That's an interesting idea, but I think the wired controllers are part of the aesthetic appeal of the Famicom. How much are NES extension cables? I might have to think about getting some myself.

They were pretty cheap, I got two for $15 shipped on eBay.

I wonder if there are any cheap devices that just have a molded plastic DB 15 without the ears for locking screws? Say for instance if it looked like a Gen/2600 plug but DB 15, one might be able to shave the ridge so it would plug in further.Ziggy587 wrote:Yeah, the Famicom or NeoGeo controller port has recessed pins so you need a cable with a longer female plug. That's not a bad idea, it probably could be done. Looking at the one in that link, I bet it's just all plastic. You could probably cut it down easily, I would use a scroll saw. Might not look nice any moreHobie-wan wrote:I wonder if there are any cheap devices that just have a molded plastic DB 15 without the ears for locking screws? Let me know if you come across parts to make another sometime. Really cool project I may be interested in, yet don't need by any sort of hurry.
