Wow, so does this mean that Mexican copies of games like Chrono Trigger, Mega Man X 3, Dracula X, Final Fantasy 3, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG etc. have no value? And hear I though having ANY copy of these games was a good thing. Didn't know there were effectively player's choice versions of these things

I haven't paid attention so I have no idea if there's a price difference. I'm not that crazy of a collector.

I imagine there could be some value difference for a collector who is specifically looking for 1 specific or all variants, but I wouldn't think it would be a huge one. But now you bring it up, there were the 'Million Seller' versions of at least Mario Kart and possibly Zelda. I bet there were others too that I'm not aware of.

So I did an ebay search on Chrono Trigger, Dracula X and Wild Guns. Interestingly, every hit that I got was a made in Mexico cart. This got me thinking. We often say that games like Mega Man X 3 or Chrono Trigger aren't really rare, they just go for high prices due to high demand. However, perhaps original print runs of these games ARE rare. Either that, or they don't exist, as I couldn't find one single copy of Chrono Trigger, Dracula X or Wild Guns on ebay that wasn't made in Mexico. In fact, my copies of these games are made in Mexico too, though they have the stickers on the back and to a layman, look like any regular old SNES cart

Bottomline though, they were still going for high prices, which means that for most gamers, these games are worth top dollar no matter where they were made

Ditto on my Wild Guns as well. I think that's all of my Made in Mexico carts though. Chrono, Contra, Super Turrican 2, and Wild Guns.

I wouldn't think the issue is Japan-made vs. Mexico-made

More like original print vs. Majesco re-print.

I bet a Chrono Trigger made in Mexico is more or less identical to one made in Japan... but with Majesco, they obviously reprinted them "on their own" not exactly attempting to make an identical product to the original. In that sense you could think of them as inferior to an original.

But if the product was commissioned by original company, but just manufactured in a different plant.. it shouldn't really matter much.
