I'm getting a new fancy smartphone through work, that I can use as my personal phone as well. Does anyone have either of these 2 (The Droid X or Droid 2)? Any recommendation on either? Obviously the big draw to the 2 is that it has a keyboard, but the X is so sexy.....
Any app recommendations either? I've never had a smartphone since I've never been willing to pay the monthly fees, so getting one finally is exciting!
Getting a droid soon (either X or 2)

Droid 2.
I have a droid 1 so i assume the droid 2 will be better, although it doesnt have a D-pad, its crucial for playing NES roms.

The keyboard can be used well enough as a d-pad, I would assume. I had a G1, which also didn't have a pad, but then the only emulation I had was of Quake, which worked great with asdw.
I prefer the keyboard personally, so that would be my purchase if I were to ever switch to Verizon. It's personal preference though. I have the Nexus One now, which has a touch screen, and it's possible to cope with the touch typing with something like Swype or SlideIT.
As for apps, there's not too many I love. Radiant is a worthy shoot 'em up, ZENONIA is an impressive adventure/RPG, Air Control is a portable touch screen standby, and Who Wants to Be Millionaire is a pretty well done trivia game. Robo Defense is has a longevity for a tower defense game, though it does get overly repetitive before long. There's probably others, but I don't research it often.
I just wish they'd release more board game apps. They're perfect for portable devices.

If you've got some extra money, I would go for an Epic 4G instead. It has a better screen, keyboard, and better data speeds [since it supports 4G] than the Droid 2, but it costs $50 more.

I have the Droid 2. It's okay I guess. It's my first smart phone so I don't know much about it.
I want to get some SNES roms for it, but i've just been lazy. The keyboard is pretty good though.

My friend has a Droid 2 and I really like the keyboard.

I have droid x, its fucking awesome. Other people seem to think that it's huge and I guess in L x W dimensions it is pretty large but it's thin as hell and doesn't bother me one bit. If you're thinking of it as a gaming device though be sure to consider what kinds of games you'll be playing. the touch screen d-pad sucks for anything but rpg and strategy and is horrible for any game that requires quick reflexes.

"These are not the droids you are looking for".
Just kidding, of course.

I just got the snes emulator and it's pretty awesome. I just mapped the controls on the physical keyboard. The touch screen doesn't support dual touch. The virtual controller kinda sucks.

Dad has Droid X, I have Droid 2, if you plan on doing any emulation, get the 2, you'll want the keyboard for a GameGripper. Otherwise, if you can live without a keyboard, get the X, bigger screen.dlmvii wrote:I'm getting a new fancy smartphone through work, that I can use as my personal phone as well.
