Philly retrogaming meetup

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Retro systems I own: 2 Dreamcasts, 2 Genesises, 1 SNES, 1 Master System, 1 PS2, 1 Gamecube, a RetroN 3 and some more. I'd also like to encourage handheld gaming at the meetups. If any of you have a Neo Geo Pocket Color I wanna throw down in some SNK vs Capcom.
I can bring my Turbo Grafx/CD system (no multi-tap), an extra SNES, NES, Saturn (unmodded..:( w/ Night Warriors :D), and an extra Genesis (and CD, if there's a demand).

I've also got quite the library of fighting games for PS, Dreamcast, and XBox.. Lemme hear some requests, and most likely I've got it!

And if this happens at Atomic Comics, I DEMAND the 6-player X-Men Cab be rockin' all night long!! 8)

PS - I've got the NeoGeo Pocket, but sadly am missing SNK vs Capcom..

I'm down for sure. I have a softmodded Xbox with the works, Dreamcast with all the hits, and N64 w/ 4 controllers. I'm willing to bring any/all of these.

Oh man this response has been fantastic. I'm going to Atomic City tomorrow to chat with the guys there and this weekend Stephen and I are checking out the library's space.

This is gonna be the raddest retro shindig in history.

You're missing out on one of the greatest handheld fighters ever made. Purchase it!

I know.. I used to own it back when I bought it on launch day. I traded the system and games away some time later, only to pick it up again for cheap on ebay a few years ago. I just still need to find a complete copy of the game for what I'm willing to pay for it, (ie - not out the ass.)

I'd be interested in this. I'm not sure what I could bring, but probably some stuff.

It wasn't posted in our thread, but I suggest using some masking tape or painters tape and labeling everything you take and maybe even write up a list to present to the place you hold the meet, especially if it is a store. Wipeoutguy and I did it for our meet to help keep items straight between both of us and store inventory. Also you can check stuff off when packing up to go and make sure you don't leave anything. Make sure to take extension cords and power strips as well.

Yeah, I figured I'd label all my stuff and provide things for people to use to label their own gear.

SO to keep you all up to speed: Today I went by Atomic City on South st to chat with the guys there. They've become option #1. I spoke with the guy that runs the place and he said if we do it on a friday or saturday we'd be low priority vs other events that may come up and it could be shaky. We'd be easily bumped but it'd still be possible. Though if it were on another night like a tuesday or thursday it would be a done deal. Then the only hurdle is just TVs and monitors. I imagine we could bring all the stuff we'd like console-wise but have a few hooked up at once. Maybe a Dreamcast at one station for Power Stone then it can be switched out with another console.

Now PROVIDING the TVs is kind of a big deal. I mean, I own one and it's a CRT and kinda big. If anyone has small flatscreen TVs or monitors and would like to show up early to help us set up you'd be A-#1-Super fan. Please, PLEASE contact me if you wanna be a tech monkey. I'd also like to encourage handhelds at the meetups for this reason. We'll only have so many gaming stations and anyone not at one can be jamming on some GBAs, Neo Geo Pocket Colors or Wonderswans.

This weekend Stephen and I will check out the library's space. I will keep you updated.

Philadelphia is a long haul for me. Still, I'd love to go if this is going to be a big annual meetup.

I can provide something you may not have considered: cables. I have a million extension cables, power strips, RCA A/V cables, coaxial cables, data cables, switches, converters. and adapters. The best part is that I have them all organized into separate bins, so I can find any cable we need.

I can provide consoles too, of course. I have multiple Nintendos, Super Nintendos, Playstations, more Sega Genesi than I can count (I honestly own far too many of these) and five Gamecubes. This brings me to my next point...

I'm trying to put together a Four Swords/Crystal Chronicles/Pac-Man Vs. setup similar to the one fastbilly put together. My take uses arcade controllers just for fun. There are still a few pieces of hardware I need to buy. Namely, I need one more GB Player and three more GBA-->GCN connectors.

As for TVs, just go to all the local Goodwill stores, and buy up twenty-five dollar TV sets. Try to find TVs that have RCA jacks, not just coax connectors.

Well, that got my attention. Is this for real? I was lucky enough to play one of these monstrous six-player arcade cabinets in my youth. I'd love the opportunity to play again. If one of the possible venues sports a six-player x-men cabinet, then your decision is obvious. Don't get me wrong; I love the free library in Philadelphia. A six-player x-men arcade would tip the scales for any video game meetup. Ask the owner to set the machine to freeplay for us.
