What a hectic couple of weeks

Post by Niode »

Some of the regulars in the IRC will have had an earful of this already but I just want to type it out and get it off my chest. A pre-emptive apology to anyone who reads this.

After the collapse of my 5+ year relationship with my fiancée I was faced with a difficult dilemma, find another job ASAP or lose my house. Well, I lost my house and was forced to move home. Found another job and got myself back on my feet. Decided that my hometown has changed for me. This isn't my 'Home', Huddersfield is my home now. I missed the place dearly every single day that I was away from here. All my friends and contacts are here. I left my 'home' life a long time ago. This is the new me. Moving 'Home' just made me realise that I'm not that same boy that once lived there. It wasn't me. I grabbed at the chance to return to University to continue to study, a friend told me about a cheap house he was living in. I called a few of my Pub owning friends to see if they could get me a job. I managed to get a job and a place to stay and I would be continuing my studies. Awesome.

Now here's the hectic part. I quit my old job the Monday before last, moved in to my new house the following Wednesday, worked my first shift at my new job on Saturday. The funny thing about my job is that it is almost entirely staffed by music students or ex-music students. One of my colleagues told me I should come out on the Music Society social pub-crawl on Monday. I don't normally do the music society things because they're not really my scene, I'd much rather just go to the pub with a few friends, sink a few nice ales and chat about random shit. I figured, fuck it. I'm not doing anything else. I guess I'll meet some new people and if I don't like it I can always go home, right?

Well, that's where I met her. 5'11" with red heels on, brunette, slim, gorgeous chestnut-brown eyes and a figure to die for. I walked up to her and started chatting, she said she didn't know anybody, I told her that I only came because my work colleague had organised it and I said I would show my face. She said she was glad I decided to show up otherwise she would have been stood on her own. (How nobody had even thought of hitting on this stunning specimen still puzzles me, maybe music students are inherently inverted socially awkward beings. I'm glad I wasn't afflicted with that particular trait). Well several glasses of 'punch' later and we're heading off to our first pub. It's busy, she looked lost (she was new in town) so I grabbed her hand and snaked to the front of the bar bought her a drink (she didn't like having drinks bought for her, so I compromised and said she could buy the next 'round'). I asked her for her number and we fiddled with each other's phones for a while. Finish the drinks and onwards to the next bar. I sit down in a secluded spot, she sat next to me. She said she wasn't sure that she was going to turn up to the Social because she was feeling tired all day but she was glad she decided to turn up. I put my arm round her and we had our first kiss. From that moment onwards we couldn't keep our hands off each other. I couldn't believe my luck. After a few more bars we just stopped buying drinks and were just sat in a corner enjoying each other's company. She decided that she was getting a headache from the noise and wanted to go home, I offered to walk her home, she accepted and grabbed my hand. I took her the longest possible route to her house stopping every now and then for a quick kiss etc. We got to her place, I kissed her good night and she shouted that she wanted me to text her the day after. I waved good bye and walked off.

I text her the following day asking her when she was free. Meet me at three outside the CAB. We met up and just walked for hours aimlessly around town, stopping every now and then for a quick kiss and a cuddle. I showed her where I worked, we talked about her favourite movies over a beer. She wanted to see a film. I said that would be a good idea but the cinema is miles away it would be quicker to go to my house, check the times and grab my car. We walk back to my house, I said I won't be five minutes and head off upstairs to check the cinema times. She took her shoes off and followed me. I showed her my room on the top floor and that I would be up in a minute. I relieve myself and head upstairs. She's sat on my bed just staring at me intently. I look at her and she just smiles. I sat next to her on my bed and we start passionately making out. One thing led to another and we're both getting pretty steamy under the covers. It was amazing. She was perfect. Satisfied we both laid in bed, I stroking her face, she playing with my chest hair and fiddling with my fingers with the other hand. It felt right you know. I was falling for this girl hook line and sinker. We laid in bed for hours just cuddling and kissing. It started getting late so I took her home kissed her good night and drove home.

The following day, I bump into her at University. She walks up to me, says she's gotta go and walks off. Ok... I had things to do at that point anyway. So off I went with my business. I bump into her again, she didn't have anything to do, I didn't either so I walk around with her. I hold her hand just as we did the day before. After a while she makes an excuse that it's too hot and her palms are getting sweaty or something like that. She swaps her hand bag round so that I can't hold her hand again. That hurt a little bit. I thought maybe she is just uncomfortable or maybe she's just shy about public displays of affection. Who knows. Girls can be a bit crazy about stuff like that. Well I sat down, she didn't sit next to me. More like she was at least an arms length away, I said "come here" and she shuffled up. I put my arm round her, she sat there for about 5 minutes and then made an excuse and went away.

I was gutted, I walked back home with everything swirling around in my head, was it something I did, something I didn't do, something I said? I texted her, no response. I waited a couple of days. Another text message ignored. I wait another day, sent her a message. Nothing. Asked her on facebook, she was having problems with her phone and that she hadn't received any texts. I figured that's plausible she did mention the other day that she was having problems. Never thought anything about it. She's probably just been busy. I talk to her again on facebook last night and finally asked her if she wanted to see me again. She said yes. I asked her when would she be free and she said she didn't know. I told her how I was feeling and if it was just a misunderstanding. She apologised for making me feel that way but she did want to see me. What a relief.

Then today. She messages me on facebook. We idly chit chat, I asked if she was up to anything interesting today. She said no. I asked her if she wanted to do something. Then I got the chat. She told me she, 'likes me' and had it been under any other circumstance she would want to see me, but she's new in town, just started a University course, she doesn't think it's the right time to be seeing somebody now. I told her that I'm glad she has told me now and that I may see her around sometime. Bye.

Amazing story, I read every word of it. Kind of rude how she like took advantage of you, then said she doesn't want to get into anything.

sounds like you need another drink. and to be honest, most musicians work better under these types of conditions, so you should consider it a lucky break.

tongue-in-cheek aside i am sure you'll be fine in the long run.
