Hi,
As some of you know I got an ipad recently and I am happy with it.
I did realize that a lot of people here refuse the ipad/iphone as a gaming device, and the truth it is a great gaming device and you should give it a chance, and time its only 6 months or so out, how many games did the PS3 have after 6 months?
any way, I was wondering if any of you is a bit technical, can you tell me what kind of graphics is the ipad capable of?
Looking at some 3D games it looks like the graphics are PSX-ish, i am not sure if it can put out early Dreamcast like games.
2D games look superb since its in HD, does that mean on 2D basis the ipad can put almost equal graphics to the ps3 and 360?
I noticed that 3D games can look a bit "retro" , as i said earlier psx-ish.
Can some on tell us what kind of graphics the ipad capable off? please compare to a console to make things clear.
Is it more powerful than the DS and PSP?

Yes, the iPod/iPad is superior to the PSP and DS in pretty much every way. CPU, GPU, RAM, Display, Battery... the iPod wins all of those categories. The only area it's lacking in is control, which is still debatable/irrelevant.
My life for Aiur.
Re: iPad capabilities
Yeah, the huge issue with it is controls (really, input of any type.). This limits the amount of game types that will transfer to it easily.

If you count the PS2 and PS1 library, hundreds, since the iPad's games were games already out for the iPhone/iPod Touch. Also, it is a lot easier and quicker to make a casual puzzle/platformer than a PS3 game. You can't really draw any parallels between the ipad and PS3 in this regard.
Anyway, the iPad is a great device for the casual gamer. My fiance has one for her job and I played with it a little and my sister bought one for her daughter to play educational games. It sure is a great tool for kids to learn. As far as being more powerful than the PSP and DS, well, of course it is. The PSP and DS came out more than 5 years ago. Technology evolves quickly.

I've go an ipod touch and while I believe some of the games are truly great, if you are going to spend THAT much money on a video game player that does much more incredible and useful things you should probably just forget about it.
Now I got all these lectures from MIT on it that I watch on the bus daily but I could play SSFIV and destroy my battery in like 20 minutes. In class I keep it on and have the problems from the book displayed on it. When I'm just chillin somewhere and there happens to be wifi I can check whatever I want on the internet. Sometimes if I'll whip it out and beat up some bad guys in Street Fighter or Rogue Touch but still.
You have to understand the battery on the thing does not last that long and what drains it faster than anything is the games. Canabalt, Shining Force, etc. not so much but something big like Street Fighter is crazy. I own a DS, PSP, and iPod touch and none of them compare to the DS. Maybe the graphics are great and maybe some really good games will be released for it but right now if you just want to play some video games buy some DS stuff.
It really comes down to this though, Dragon Quest IX is really good.

I've got my crown and I've got my scepter.

I'm not certain about the iPad battery life, but I know playing Espgaluda II or DDP Resurrection on my iPod Touch drains the battery in about 40 minutes or so.

still no one told us what kind of graphics the IOS devices currently capable of, can you compare it to any console?
I truly believe the iOS devices can be a serious hard-core gaming tool. You might favor DS or psp, just like any one will like Wii over 360, or 360 over ps3, but in the end the iOS devices will be up there with them in portable gaming.
I do understand that buttons are quite important, i have played couple of games and some games work significantly well even with out buttons. Add-on buttons can always be an option in the future.
I feel like if there was a a controller add-on, the iPad will be the Neo-Geo of portables with that HUGE screen.

Re: iPad capabilities
Well the iPhone 4 is definitely capable of some spectacular graphics just take a look at the tech demos for RAGE and the downloadable tech demo called Epic Citadel, running on UT3 tech.
Surprisingly it actually runs better than that on my iPhone 4, I think there's something explained in the article about the iPhone having to render two screens at once, lowering the performance.
This is the iPhone 4. I'm under the impression that the iPad isn't as powerful as the iPhone 4. You're going to have to wait for the next iteration of the iPad for iPhone 4 quality graphics.
Having seen Real Racing running on the iPad I'd have to say that the iPad is at least capable of producing Dreamcast level graphics.

1) for adventure games, strategy games, puzzle games and perhaps a few more strange games the ipad is great. Anything besides that needs buttons.
2) Battery life will always make it a gimped video game machine.
and I'd say the ipad is about at PS2 graphics level? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqdvClxB-Zg

I have never played with any ithing but I know that as a games platform it is worth merit for having a large, cheap libary of games, that is if you own an ipod touch, buy anything else and you will not have any money for games.
