Patch a cartridge?

Post by optmusprimenumber »

Is it possible to apply a patch written for a rom to the cartridge from which the rom originated? Ex. The fancy color patch for Metroid II... can that be done?

No, official game cartridges are read only, you`ll need to get a flashcart like the Bleepbloop. ems usb 64Mb or the Smartboy.

You could flash the patched ROM to a chip and re wire it. It's entirely possible.

I've tried patching the rom and running it off my smartboy last week (I tried several of the metroid II patches), and it didnt work. It worked fine on the emulator, but it warned me that the header was fucked up - loading it on my smart boy cart and starting up just left me at the Game Boy screen. If anyone knows how to fix a header for a gb or gbc rom, let me know and I'll try it out.

Zapf:

uCON64 can probably fix the header:
http://ucon64.sourceforge.net/

--logo restore ROM logo character data (offset: 0x104-0x134)
--chk fix ROM checksum

Or maybe GBList in the emutools section at the bottom using the -f option.
