This is now my favorite topic, great idea!

Stinger on NES supports three players, but you need to make use of the expansion port on an older NES (to simulate the Famicom Four-Way play) and a Game Genie code (http://www.gshi.org/vb/threads/4325-Sti ... 29?p=38483). Richard at rahga.com is working on a guide to help out with it.

Similarly you can get 4 player out of Super Dodgeball with this method, as shown on Richard's site. You can also import some Nekketsu games like "Kakutou Densetsu" (excellent 4P brawler) or "Koushin Kyoku - Soreyuke Daiundoukai" which is a funny as hell "foot race" type of game.

For SFC/SNES, there's plenty of good stuff that you already mentioned. I'd possibly add Dragon (funny Bruce Lee fighter for 3 people), Tetris 3, the Bomberman series, the Nekketsu Dodgeball game, and Tiny Toon Adventures: Wacky Sports Challenge (one of my all time favorite 4 player games).

The Genesis/Mega Drive has a few cool 4P (or more) titles. I haven't played any of the NHL games, but some people seem to dig those. Other cool ones to check out are Gauntlet IV, General Chaos, Tiny Toons ACME All-Stars, Yu Yu Hakusho Makyo Toitsusen (this one is BAD ASS), Dungeon Explorer (if you have a Sega CD), most of the Micro Machines games (2 is probably my favorite but I like the level editor found in later ones), and Mega Bomberman.

For the Atari 2600, there's always Warlords. The Medieval Madness homebrew remake is even more awesome.

One game I don't see mentioned a lot is the Tamagotchi game for N64. It's a 4 player "board game" kind of like Mario Party. The language barrier doesn't prevent you from having fun with it, there's a lot of crazy mini-games and it's a pretty enjoyable romp. Check it out if you get the chance.

I'll hopefully check in here later with a few more suggestions, there's too many great multiplayer gems. Also, props for putting Indy Heat on your list, that game is amazing.

Bomberman Blast is a good one for wii. Sure it is ONLY 8 players but also has online play (plus my copy of Saturn Bomberman is in Japanese so I usually play Blast) . There are other party games in the vain of Mario Party. Dokapon Kingdom (Wii and PS2) it mixes in simply rpg/roshambo elements. There are other party games suggested on this similar but dead thread of mine.

I love the online play in Bomberman Blast, especially since you can bring offline players with you. Great stuff!

I would mention the best Mario Party for each system in the list. Include both 3 and 7.

Also, Mario Party 7 is handsdown the best. All of the minigames are great, and the addition of the microphone really adds an extra element in a multiplayer game party. Plus, there are some minigames that can be played with 8 players via sharing controllers. This turns out to be great fun because of the obvious problems with sharing controllers.

Remember that having fun with multiplayer games is a whole different story than having fun with single player games. A lot of the times, weird glitches and downright terrible graphics/story add to the experience because you can laugh about it.

I updated the list with a lot more games, go check it out.

Thanks to everyone for their input, as the list seemed to triple in size since the original post. I tried to give people proper credit for their suggestions but I might have missed some people. Scrolling through two pages worth of suggestions, checking out the games, adding them in the proper spot, finding who suggested them, and all that is a lot more work that I had anticipated.

I also added a few more games that need more input on the Multi Format Games section, mainly being WarioWare and Micro Machines. Still need a Worms Armageddon guru to share some insight as to which version is the best and why.

Some random responses:

- Yes I have played Chef's Luv Shack. I have played it many times with a lot of different people over the years, as I have owned it since it came out :P. The game isn't terrible but it isn't exactly the best party game. Most of the questions and answers are so confusing and retarded that it is hard for people to get into the game. The mini games are fun but they are usually over really quickly for people who have little to no experience with Chef's Luv Shack. My main concern with this game is it is hard for people to pick up and play. Sure the games are all simple but if you play this with people who have never played it before it can be very confusing and frustrating for them because of the huge array of mini games and the weird questions. This game hasn't proven to be popular at all when I have played it with a lot of people.
I do hold a special place in my heart for this game, but that is mainly because what the good times I have had in the past, and game reminds me of (childhood, South Park), not because it is still worth playing today. I also have it for N64 for there are no load times for me.

- Fixed the Turbo Grafx spelling error.

- I did mention Bomberman 64. That is actually the only Bomberman game that originally made the list and I did write about it in the Bomberman section towards the bottom of the page.

- I didn't list portables because I don't know about everyone else but I have never had a bunch of people over to play handheld games in the same fashion that I do with console party games. Handheld gaming isn't that popular among my friends and family for some reason. Typically when you picture people playing party games, I don't think people sitting around playing Gameboy comes to mind. Rather, I picture people gathered around a TV playing together and getting into the action. I could be wrong though since the only time I ever had people over to play handheld games was when my brothers, friends and I used to play Pokemon Red/Blue in my kick ass fort when we were kids. 8)

So far I have added the following to my shopping list for sure:
Pacman VS: This looks amazing and it is probably going to be the next game I try out with all my friends.
Mario Party 3: Although I do appreciate the suggestion for Mario Party 7, I like the N64 better than the Wii and retro gaming seems to be more popular among my friends (myself included of course).
DRiiFT Mania: Looks like the game I have been waiting for. I have always been a huge fan of this style of game and it looks like this take on a classic game is worth picking up.
Sega Saturn, Saturn Bomberman, ten controllers, multitap: This one is gonna hurt the old wallet. If someone wants to sell me all these things in a huge lot please let me know. I have a feeling that will be easier than tracking all this down separately. :p

GameCube:
Geist
F-Zero GX
Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee

Wii:
Vertigo
(Haven't played the multiplayer yet but the game is really cheap. It's basically a new Marble Madness.)

Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing
(Mario Kart clone that does it right. I recommend the Wii version because the framerate doesn't drop as bad as the PS3/360 versions.)

Bumped.

I bought Driift Mania and this game is amazing. Thanks for the suggestion. This is exactly the type of game I was looking for.

I am still in the market for a Sega Saturn, but getting 10 controllers, the game, two multitaps and the system is starting to look a little pricey at the moment. I also wanted to get one of the Bomber Man themed multitaps since they look a lot cooler, but they are more expensive since they are Japanese exclusive.
