K'naan
K'naan
So I just came back from a peace day concert at Simon Fraser University. They had a bunch of local artist come, some of them amazing, a few of them not at all... Anyways, the big draw was that K'naan was going to perform. He is on a tour in Vancouver and he ASKED to participate in this event. He WANTED to be apart of the celebration and perform FOR US. At about 10 or 11, one of the organizers gets on stage with an extremely serious face. He told us that K'naan would not be performing. Over 90, 000 were raised for the event and 40, 000 of which were going STRAIGHT TO K'NAAN. According to what we were told, K'naan was being prevented from performing because the cheque was $5000 short. I'm torn because I truly liked K'naan and I don't know what to think. He wanted to come perform but I find it hard to believe that anyone could have stopped him from doing this, and I find it especially hard to believe that he wouldn't perform on account of being $5000 short for a CHARITY EVENT. The whole thing is kind of crushing. Despite this, the night was pretty awesome for those of us who did stay. Does anyone else like K'naan or have any insight on how the situation was handled? I really think that if he wanted to perform and it was his management who didn't want to be shortchanged, he could have just given them the $5000 out of his own pocket.
Re: K'naan
I have no idea who this dude is but he sounds like a prick. Even if it was his management who somehow forced him, he is still a loser for getting controlled like that. I have no respect for any artist that operates so conventionally.
I've got my crown and I've got my scepter.
