whats the right way to store NES games?

Post by kenshin-dono »

you know i got to thinking about something.. whats the right way to store an NES game in its sleeve? Should it be so the label is exposed and the little indentation tab is covered by the edge of the sleeve? or should it be so the little indentation tab (i think its a grab tab) is exposed, and the label is partially hidden by the cover? I used to do it the 2nd way, but got to thinking maybe the first way is better.

Hell, anyone know how they came new back in teh day? ic ant remember

If you have them stacked horizontally, I would leave the indentation tab exposed so you can grab ahold of the game easily. If you're displaying a game upright, I would cover the tab to show off the artwork.

Btw, you didn't ask, but the best way to store a bunch of NES games is surprisingly in a wooden Mrs. Field's cookie crate.

They look like they were obviously made to be able to grab the cartridge easier. So putting them in that way is the right way.

Too much coffee I guess. I think pic above shows the better way. If finger tab is the other way, especially if you rotate games a lot, you could get a cuticle cut. Main thing is if no sleeve, store cart contacts down to keep out dust.

I'm pretty sure that they came in the box the same way as pictured above. Granted I was probably 10 or 11 when I last opened a new NES game some 20 years ago, lol!

so basically the proper way is with the label being covered by the case and the finger tab exposed?

Anyone happen to find an old game in the box that can confirm this =P or has a REALLY good memory. Its just one of those OCD things thats bugging me. I need to finish organizing some stuff then i will be storing them all. I think a few boxed games i got in recently actually were the OTHER way in the case (with the label exposed and the tab covered by the case) but those had been opened before

It's definitely as everyone has said on this page. I made a note of that when I bought the last of the NES games in the mid 90s.

I thought the opposite at first... like maybe the cutaway on the sleeve was meant to show the art? But no, it's for the cart grab tab.

Someone just needs to buy a sealed game and find out for 100% certainty.

That sounds really tempting -- just for kicks I suppose!
