metroid II color hack?? techy knowledge needed
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/204/
any of you guys know what i'm supposed to do with this? i got as far as downloading it, and i'm pretty much at a loss as what to do next. i use visual boy advance for my emulator. i just caught an interest in the metroid series so i'm hoping to give metroid II a spin, but not so much without color.thanks.
edit: oohp, maybe i found something good at the site i got the color patch from... feel free to lend some knowledge anyway

What you need is an ips patcher to add the patch to the ROM file. My patcher of choice is ipswin.

um, if you stick the GB cart into a GBA it's displayed in color anyway. The original GB cart had color information stored in it, so Samus looks like Samus. Not sure the point of the patch?

it's fancier colorness... i remember what the gbc does to non color games, and some guy took the liberty of coloring the game pretty swell like. but yeah, thanks about the ips patcher advice, i actually stumbled upon that info during the past 5 minutes... but good man, good man. cheers

Yeah, given your edit I reckoned that.optmusprimenumber wrote:it's fancier colorness... i remember what the gbc does to non color games, and some guy took the liberty of coloring the game pretty swell like. but yeah, thanks about the ips patcher advice, i actually stumbled upon that info during the past 5 minutes... but good man, good man. cheers

no, it's not the basic colors -- Metroid II was one of a handful of games that actually had colors programmed for it.optmusprimenumber wrote:i remember what the gbc does to non color games,

You should try the colour hack noiseredux, it's really quite a lot better.
BTW, at the original poster - Lunar IPS is the most current IPS patcher that will give you the least amount of problems across many different patches.

I highly doubt I'd find it better. I got Metroid II the week it was released, and it's still my favorite Metroid game to this day. I'm very accustomed to it as it is, so I can't see myself enjoying someone futzing around with it.irixith wrote:You should try the colour hack noiseredux, it's really quite a lot better.

Damnit, I can't seem to find the .ips patch or any info on it. Years ago, there was an ips patch that put the entire game in full color, not Super Gameboy Colors as this patch would do. All I have now is the patched ROM. There doesn't even seem to be any youtube videos on it...
