How much emphasis do you put on game reviews?

I don't give too much of a shit about most game review sites (for obvious reasons). I do occasionally look at Game Rankings or Meta Critic out of curiosity. I mostly do this after I made my opinion on the game, though.

When I do read (or watch) a review, I pay attention to this such as: "The textures are low resolution" or "This game is short, clocking in at about 8 hours.". An example of this is a review I watched on That Guy With The Glasses (I can't remember who) of Section 8. The review described the classes, the maps, and the overall style of the game. From what I gathered from the review, I figured I would like it because it sounded like Tribes mixed with Enemy Territory. Later I bought it on GoGamer and I liked it. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any active servers. :(

I too enjoy Classic Game Room reviews. It's like hearing about a game from a friend. Instead of nitpicking stupid shit, he tells you what's enjoyable and makes constant 80's franchise jokes. ;)

Honestly, I put a lot of emphasis on reviews. Between retro and current games, there are so many to play that I've had to start limiting myself only to games that get an 85 or better on metacritic.

When I'm on the fence about getting an obscure game I have to admit, the first place I go is Gamefaqs reviews section. I take into account that nearly everyone who posts a review there is obsessed and will love the worst points about it or hated it enough to file a complaint regardless of the best points. After skimming through the 2 best and 2 worst number ratings I have a good idea about that games best and worst points. It works for me and requires almost no effort on my part.

This.

Mark from CGR is a really awesome dude and makes his reviews as fun, honest and down to earth as possible.

I think the biggest examply for me over the last couple years has to be Blue Dragon. People love to bag on it, but I really loved this game. It had a lot of heart and the musical score was one of Uematsu's best in a while. Reviews are good for an idea but I say as long as you enjoy it then screw em'

When I was a kid EGM was the law if they gave a game 9, 9, 9, 9 it was a must want for me nowadays I do not care I do not trust the reviewers if a game interests me i will do a youtube search to see the game in action or read forums to get opinons by regular gamers.
