Yes, but I don't think many people would make it. I asked around a few years ago, and all the people I spoke with wouldn't even put EarthBound on a Mother 2 cart.

Yeah, it's possible, but I would never do it. I wouldn't even bother calling it a "repro" because it'd be a straight up pirate cart. The only reason why one would want a repro of Earthbound is because it's expensive, right? Well for that type of game I would charge about $60 for it. One could buy a real copy of Earthbound for not much more... so why even bother with a pirate copy of it?

Moreover, I only make carts of games that have either not been released or were released only in Japan and have since been fan-translated. Even with the later, I don't like making them at out thin air (donor carts) and very much prefer using the original game cart. Example: Putting the English translation of Final Fantasy V on a Final Fantasy V Super Famicom cart.

I really wouldn't have a problem putting Earthbound on a Mother 2 cart, but there's no way to stop the buyer of opening it up and sticking it in an American SNES case, putting a label on it and selling it on eBay for it's normal going price. Maybe I'd do it if I would super glue the cart together, and rig it to explode if opened.

Zig, can't remember if I ever asked if you learned how to do NES repros... apologies if I already have. I'm basically looking for Mr. Gimmick on the NES, which used a special chip IIRC. Anyone who knows anything about repros is more than welcome to answer. :)

It does indeed use a special chip. I think a reproduction of this is out of the question.

A special version of this mapper, labeled as "SUNSOFT 5" rather than "FME-7", contains sound generation hardware which appears to be a subset of the well-known General Instrument AY-3-8910 (3 square waves). This sound generation hardware was used on only one Famicom title – Gimmick!

Damn! Ah, looks like emulation is really the only way to go on this game, unless I come across a few thousand dollars that I don't really need! I watched a playthrough with some really great commentary and it looked VERY hard. Like Kirby on crack.

Not sure why I haven't done this before: a 'reproduction' of the back label on a SNES cart...

Image

Pretty funny... that little impression of a two digit number that's stamped into the label... it made it through the scanning and printing process and ended up on my reproduction label. When you first see it, it almost looks like a real impression. Though after you study it for a few seconds, the magic disappears.

You should make some with different amusing text that only resembles the original.
