i took gritty sandpaper and took all the paint off. then i took fine sandpaper and made it all smooth. then i hit it with 3 coats of primer and then 3 coats of spray paint for plastic. i think it might of been kryon fusion, actually. and in between each coat i took fine sandpaper to it to rough it up a bit. and now that i think about it, i might have finished it off with a few coats of clear sealer.

that is about 12 coats and all, ha. i think i did a pretty thorough job but it really isn't holding up well. for example, i accidentally banged the controller output thing-a-ma-bob into the system and it just tore a big ass chip in it. but, maybe the paint i used isn't for the job.

Wow... you were extremely thorough. I'm really sorry to hear that its not holding up. Especially since a white genesis would look fantastic.

I can't think of any reason why that didn't work out, and the paint should be fine. The only kind of paint I've heard of people using besides spraypaint for plastics is high gloss automotive paint, and obviously that's even more difficult and not a practical choice.

Ok, well, I'm convinced guys. I'll leave the wavebird alone.

A lot of what people are saying about painting controllers is true. But I'd say you try painting a regular GameCube controller. Play with it for a while and see how it holds up. If it's good, then you'll know you'll be safe painting a Wavebird.

When I wanted to paint my SNES controllers black, I did them one at a time. Aaaand I never bothered to paint the second one...
