GOG gone? DRM'd? WTF?

Post by D.D.D. »

I didn't see a post for this but, GOG is down/gone/gonna be DRM'd/??? now.

http://kotaku.com/5642141/what-happened ... -old-games

What do you suppose is gonna come from this?
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

I was shocked to see this news. I really hope I can get on there and download my (rather large) game library from them. :|

After having a look around it seems that it's a marketing stunt for the launch of it going final.

If it's a PR stunt, it's absolutely terrible.

It got everybody talking about it though. I guess as a PR stunt, it's pretty effective.

They could have used a bit more tact though.

Going by their twitter post on 9/17:
Sometimes it's really hard being DRM-free... hard to keep things the way they are and keep management and publishers happy :(
It would seem to me that they are being forced by publishers to include DRM. And yes, that would be the antithesis of what gog.com was originally about. But, considering many of the games in their catalog are not available anywhere else, I suppose having DRM would be the lesser evil of no access to the game.

Oh, and once again, thank you pirates. Yet another example of how they are screwing over legitimate consumers (if in fact my theory is correct).
NES | SNES | Genesis | PSOne | Saturn | N64 | Dreamcast | Gamecube | XBox | PS2 Phat w/HDLoader | PS3 Slim| Wii
GBA SP | PSP-1000 | WiFi-iPad 16GB(Is this a game system?) | Modded PS1 | PS Vita 3G

The pirates aren't screwing legitimate consumers over, the publishers are. The pirates are just an excuse.

If the publishers could they'd find a way to charge you per-level to play a game.
