Is a ebook reader, worth the price? Quick answer: Yes!

I actually got into the eBook thing a month ago and have to say that I love it. I didn't go with the Kindle because it couldn't have its memory upgraded via SD card but I got a nook instead. I read Manga on it and it does exactly what I want it to do. If you plan on actually reading literature then the Kindle 3 is the way to go.

agreed. I honestly can't see how moving a kindle around is any easier than moving a book or 2. And don't tell me many people are away from home so long that they can finish more than 2 books.

I'm probably ahead of the curve around here, been reading books on digital devices for nearly ten years, so the times I actually picked a real book have been few and far between. Refusing the transition from paper to digital to me is almost like declining textbooks in favour of stone tablets

I would say moving a Kindle a around would be in fact a little harder. A book won't break but a Kindle can. I bought it so I can have all my newspapers, mags, books and blogs in one place and ready to read when I'm at work. Some may prefer books, but the Kindle and Nook are pretty sweet and have some great side benefits. My eyes hurt after a while when reading and its nice to be able to make the text larger on the Kindle. Plus, people are starting to hack the firmware of these devices to make them do even more cool things. More the Nook though because of its Android platform.

I got my mom a Sony PRS-300 for christnas last year and she loves it. It's smal, the battery life is excellent and the screen is great. She syncs it on Calibre every morning to get the news and stuff.

oh ok. Personally I use my phone for newspapers blogs and stuff. When I think books I think about having one on the beach or on the train.

Plus I'm still young and don't have problem with the letters......yet

Still I think they are too expensive for what they are. Then again apple came out with a 600€ reader and people are buying it.

I think the current price of the kindle is acceptable
The idea of carrying many articles and books with you in a think electronic device is great.
I have seen sony's e-ink tablet, its amazing! its like paper some how

but in the end, how many people out there read so much that they need a dedicated reading device?
The ipad costs more, but can do a lot more too. I tried using the ipad to read yesterday, I don't think its that comfortable, but its a solution.

Here is the question,
do you want a dedicated reading device to carry around?
or
do you want a general purpose portable device(ipad) to carry around?

its about your needs, if you are a read kindle is the answer. If you like to view media, read, browse, play games, and much more. Ipad

Sick of this perpetual iPad hype. Apple didn't create the tablet computer market y'know.

One major point to consider with tablets: They're backlit, and that isn't good for sleep.

As I said,
How many people need a dedicated reading device to carry around? If you are of that type, buy the ebook reader, I fully support you. iPad sucks next to it.

but for everything else....
