Looking for a car book.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Problem is my parents are kind of skeptical about me doing my own repairs. I had a camshaft position sensor go in my car and I looked up a guide on how to do it but my parents took it to a mechanic anyway. I can see where they are coming from because I spent pretty much all of my savings on it. Maybe I'll take it to my friends house when I wanna do stuff :D .
Go for it! Show parents you can do that oil change, if they don't mind the accidental oil spot on the driveway. Some cardboard laid down ahead of time will prevent that.

Looks like you already have more knowledge then most. So what exactly does the cam sensor do on your car? My guess would be to feed the module for ignition timing, emission controls and fuel injection.

I know how to change a tire, but that's about it. I don't really know anyone who's "into" cars so I've never had the opportunity to learn about them, and I don't have the money to go out and buy one to mess around with (not yet anyway).

Last time I tried doing anything on my car it was installing a cd player. It ended with me buying a new car.

That's pretty much it. When it went my car would randomly stall out and my car was noticeably sluggish.

Good conversing with another mechanic.
I think you should have put that sensor in yourself.

Another good way to learn is to check forum sites for your specific car. Alot of do it yourselfers on those sites that break things down easy for other members. Plus you can always discover little common problems about your car that someone else has already spent tons of time finding.

Cars are becoming more and more unfriendly to the average person to repair.Cars have specific computers for each area of the car (ECM, TCM, BCM, etc) and now a days require special software to perform alot of repairs or recalibrations.

I own my own automotive shop, ive been in business for 3 years. Ive worked on cars since highschool and went to school for mechanical engineering. Cars are demons haha. Cars have been my passion and my life (they even beat out video games haha). I collect and fix older cars myself (GM,FORD) but i also have modern cars, turbo, fuel injected the whole works haha. You guys have any questions feel free to hit me up.
Current Systems: Nes (original and Messiah), PC Engine Duo R, Snes, Genesis, Sega CD, 32X, CD-I, GB, Game Gear, GBA, Virtual Boy, PS1, Saturn, N64, PS2, Dreamcast, Xbox, Gamecube, PSP, DS, Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, 3DS

I might hit you up soon. I want to increase performance of my car (e46 BMW 323i) somehow.
