Best way to remove yellowish stain off a Super Nintendo

Post by AznKhmerBoi »

anything out there that works 100%

I know its just from the plastic reacting to UV rays. And seen people fade out the yellow a little with a combination of alcohol and oxygen cleaning prod, but it didnt really clean it thoroughly and still had a yellowish tent to it. Anybody out there found a solution for this problem that is 100% ?

Thanks ahead...

retrobrite?

That might be what you're referring to by "a combination of alcohol and oxygen cleaning prod", but I don't think there's much better you can do short of just buying a new SNES.

The yellowing is caused by oxidization of the plastic itself. So, I doubt you can remove the yellow without removing the plastic itself. Unless you're not against painting over it.

Only on the exposed surface, not inside the plastic. I think Yukima 's peroxide removes just that very fine top layer in the chemical cleaning process.

Does anyone happen to know how this effects stickers, such as the front panel of the Famicom? I'd like to try this, but I don't want it end up ruining the stickers.

If the sticker is foil, it hopefully should be okay. My Super Famicom had foil stickers on the back and they stayed on just fine even after being soaked for 10+ hours. Maybe because the adhesive wasn't affected? :?

Yeah, if the stickers are made of foil or plastic they'll probably be ok. Paper ones, not so much.
