What e-mail service do you use?

I use firefox and those yahoo ads don't even show up, and that was before I even got adblock plus. I was amazed when I got on someone else's computer to check my e-mail and saw all these ads I'd never seen before. Also, I don't get much spam at all. My grandpa gets 100s of spam e-mails a day, althoug he's not exactly the most careful web browser.

Sorry but I think that is a relic of the 90s.

You can do the same with Google. You can also get a paid account if you want your own domain, etc.

I personally like accessing my email from the clouds. I can go to any computer and access my mail. I can easily search for a particular old email.

Like I said before, the only reason that you don't get spam is that your email name /domain is unique and/or unknown. It has nothing to do with being on a private server.

I'm on a private server at work but since my username is common....I get spam.

Gmail, I have 20 Gmail accounts.

I absolutely hate Yahoo and any form of it. Same thing with Apple.

I use Fastmail.fm. Google knows too much about me. It's free, does IMAP and web access. Pretty basic, but I don't like email much anyway.

seems everyone is extremely happy about gmail

problem with my gmail is that I have 3 gmail accounts, and i kind of need them all for different purposes, and getting to the same page and having3-4 different log in names can be a bit confusing.

last time I checked, using a free email client with an email program will download the e-mails but when u log on using the browser, they will still be there and un-opened , so over time they will just be collected.

Plus, why would u want an extra software to read emails in the browser will be just fine?

You can use IMAP with GMail if you really want to use Outlook/Thunderbird as your client. The email would be kept on the server. If you use POP, then you can configure it to download emails and delete them on the server.

Still, using the mail client to search through your emails sucks, especially outlook. It's very slow and the search expressions are lousy.

The browser client is very rich and the search is fast. Anyone who believes that a thick client (outlook) is the way to go should try the thin client for a week. Google has a lot of innovative ideas. I really like the calendar interface. I have several calendars (personal, family, and teaching) that are merged into one calendar. The personal one is only visible by me. The family is shared with my wife & I. The teaching is with my wife and co-teachers. I also link to some calendars of some sports teams. Really nice feature.

It's amazing that some people can be very resistant to change. To knock something without having tried it, is wrong in my opinion. To prefer the old way after trying something new for a period is ok.

You can tie all your gmail accounts together so you can send and receive email from all of them with only one logon. I think you can do it with non-gmail accounts too but I've never tried.
