sega cd help

Hey i got a sega cd and I've heard alot about wav and mp3s and seperating them to copy the game.
So how do I do all of this and burn it to a cd? And do you thinka phillips cd-r will work?

and btw most of my games are in mp3 format not wave
or they are in completely in bin/iso format.

complete bin/iso formats, then all the data and audio is just in the image and you just burn the image like anyother.


As for the mix mode discs (where you have audio files and a data file usually in .bin format)... then you have a few options.

A) the package of files should have come with a .cue file. The cue sheet is what you load up as your image... it tells the program what files to burn, in what order, and what format.

B) make your own cue sheet if one isn't made already. You can learn the syntax of it from most websites out there (just google .cue syntax tutorial). If you don't want to learn it, then you can get Sega .cue maker, which works for both segaCD and sega Saturn games. It will make the cue sheet for you, in what ever audio format.

Don't worry about the audio format, as long as the cue sheet says to burn as CDA then the burning program will convert them on the fly. No need to decompress the .mp3's or .ogg's (or whatever other format)... even when you use .wav, the burning program actually converts on the fly (though CDA is VERY similar to .wav).

Your final option is some Burning tools (mostly the old ones, don't know why) have a "Mixed-Mode" wizard that allows you to select a data track along with all the audio tracks. Most of these tools are outdated though and don't support a lot of newer burners. I'm not sure if things like Nero have started including them again, but I really haven't seen it in a few years. I'd just stick with the cue sheet method, that is how I do it.

stupid fucking cue maker doesn't work and why would it with an iso files anyway. regardless, whenever i try to burn a cue file made or one include with one of the games, it doesn't recongnize it. and i tried with ashampoo and alcohol 120. and i never had problems with cues before.

What are one of the games... tell me the title, the data file name, the music track list (and format) and their names. And I'll write a quick .cue sheet so you can see how it is done.

ok cool thanks alot, but why isn't sega cue maker working? thats the whole point but anyways thanks agianand

but for alot of the games its Sonic cd -track 1 (for the iso, alot have track 1 in the name)

and like i said most of the come with cues, but they don't work.

instead of burning games directly from bin/cue, I find it easier to mount the image first, make sure everything is OK, and then Copy the the mounted image to a blank cd.

As for your files. That is a weird ass file name. I'd start by renaming them to something much easier.

for instance, my games follow this route.

NAME - EarthwormJim 2

EarJim2_Track01.bin
EarJim2_Track02.mp3
...
...

then a cue sheet could be done like this, it's fairly basic for sega cd games as they all follow the same basic sector lay out. Saturn games get a little more complex (i.e. X-Mas NiGHTS or Virtua Cop)

TRACK 01 MODE1/2048
INDEX 01 00:00:00
POSTGAP 00:02:00
FILE "*name of track*" MP3
TRACK 02 AUDIO
PREGAP 00:02:00

Copy sectore 3 over and over for more audio tracks, change the TRACK 03 to whatever track that one is... and replace *name of track* with the file name

for instance

The word that follows the file name is the kind of file it is. Binary is a data image (.iso uses this same parameter)
the next line denotes the Track on the disc and the track format. TRACK 01 for SegaCD games is always MODE1/2048, this is a data track.
audio tracks should say AUDIO at the end of it... this will tell the computer to automatically convert whatever format the source AUDIO is to .CDA audio.

oh and there should always be that gap between track 1 and track 2.

FINALLY most important, all the music files, the data file and the .cue sheet should all be in the same directory when you run this.
