Anyone here know how to refurbish an old laptop battery?
Is refurbing an old battery worth it or should I just go for the price replacement?
It's a battery for a 10 year old Gateway I use for as beat laptop and for music but I really love this thing and need a fresh battery. Only problem is that as it's 10 years old there aren't any quality ones readily available for a good price.
So, can anyone on here offer me a good deal on replacing the cells inside?

I'm guessing it's different that replacing the batteries inside a GG or GB battery pack... Have you contacted Gateway yet? I know it's 10 years old but y'never know.

Gateway just assembled the pre-manufactured components. You should contact the company that actually manufactured the battery. I bet someone on their tech staff could give you the model number of a compatible battery.

This laptop is from 2000 guys, AKA before Gateway was just a re-assembler. Until about '02 Gateway actually used to make almost all their own parts right here in the USA. The only non US stamped parts on my whole machine are the battery which is marked Japan and the RAM/HDD.
Anyhow, the battery itself just says Gateway as the branding along with 11.1V, 6400mAh and upon cracking it open to check contains 12 cells.
But yeah, the main reason I'm asking is that I can't buy one from Gateway as they no longer manufacture/stock anything for my model and because the cheapest legit replacement battery I saw for it was $116.00!

Yeah, but this is a 700mhz laptop from ten years ago, the main goal here is not to put a lot of cash in it.D.D.D. wrote:Still cheaper than a new laptop~Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:But yeah, the main reason I'm asking is that I can't buy one from Gateway as they no longer manufacture/stock anything for my model and because the cheapest legit replacement battery I saw for it was $116.00!

Re: Anyone here know how to refurbish an old laptop battery?
the only kinda good method aside from hooking it up to a proper deep-cycle charger I've heard of is this: Go into the bios and let the battery fully discharge (no power management to shut the computer down before killing the battery) and then turn it on while plugged in and again go into the bios to fully recharge it. You can repeat the process and get some extra life out of an old battery. I've had great service at www.getpartsonline.com Cheap prices and a part-number associator for compatible parts from other manufacturers. If you post your laptop's full model number I can find the compatible batteries both first and 3rd party.

Well the battery itself is long dead, I got the laptop itself used from a buddy about 7 months ago and it was in storage for years prior to me or him ever getting it. Basically it doesn't even charge at all any more as the cells are completely dead.Anapan wrote:the only kinda good method aside from hooking it up to a proper deep-cycle charger I've heard of is this: Go into the bios and let the battery fully discharge (no power management to shut the computer down before killing the battery) and then turn it on while plugged in and again go into the bios to fully recharge it. As for model number my computer is a Gateway Solo Pro 9300 if that helps.

Ok, that site is officially blocked unless you can somehow prove me otherwise as it just started spamming me with a "live" agent wanting to tell me about their fantastic new offer.jeffro11 wrote:Here is a battery for $50
