Pretty sad that no one has mentioned Richard Pryor or Lenny Bruce... I agree with BIll Hicks and George Carlin though, both are amazing.. Sam Kinison and Dave Chappelle are up there as well.. Woody Allen came up with some funny jokes as well in his day but he's more known for his screenwriting..

Carlin, Pryor, Murphy. These three are the only comedians that have made me nearly piss myself from laughing so hard.

Louie C.K. for me...he created Pootie Tang which is amazingly amazing. I do love 80's Eddie Murphy though.
