I don't know (yet). I do know that if the Wii has firmware later than 3.00 then it doesn't read those unlicensed discs though.

And a Wii that is from the fall 2009 and newer cannot read DVD-R at all.

right. But again, this is possibly great news for retro Cube enthusiasts. Considering the Cube is still available at Gamestop for $30 (and hell, I see them at yard sales for $10 or less!) if somebody figures out how to make it possible to play new unlicensed discs on the un-modded consoles, then we could start seeing the sort of renaissance that the Dreamcast has enjoyed. (I would kill to see a new Shmup on the Cube personally).

If you're a GC fan, you should hang around http://gc-forever.com. It was started by emu_kidid who has worked on SD Boot and other homebrew. It doesn't get a lot of forum activity but there's still some good input.

Another GC enthusiast (from Mexico) has sent emu_kidid email on creating some sort of HDD interface to the Gamecube. The site owner has been cleaning it up, etc and is planning to publish it this weekend as a tutorial. It's a difficult mod (requires an older PS2 mod chip that you need to reflash, etc) and uses a version of SD Boot. Nevertheless, it seems like it will be interesting to try out.

Sadly I sold my GCN to get my Saturn... I loved that thing to and I sold it for $10, I feel so dirty now. Especially with something like this; the prospect of non-licensed games makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
