Bubsy In Fractured Furry Tails (Atari Jaguar) Review

Bubsy...for years, he's been one of my favorite characters, with Bubsy II being my favorite game in the series. Bubsy I was an alright game, and Bubsy II was pretty good too. I've never played Bubsy 3D. When I got my Jaguar, Bubsy In Fractured Furry Tales was one of the first games I got for it. I thought to myself "This should be fun". I couldn't have been more wrong. This game took a step in the wrong direction, and the result is disastrous. Where to begin...

Gameplay: This is a platformer. You know, run left/right, jump on enemies, etc. You know the drill. This game fails however, in the fact that you have no health whatsoever. One hit, and your dead. This is bad, because everything, from chocolate dripping from the ceiling to puddles water, is deadly. What really pisses me off though, is that most enemies are hard to see. This is because there are too many colors on the screen at once. Another thing that ticks me off is that there are VERY few checkpoints per level, and most of them are only available AFTER you backtrack through the level looking for a switch or some other stupid thing to help you proceed.

Music: The music in this game is so...bland. It's just too plain to be considered good. That's the only way I can describe it. If you MUST hear it, go to Youtube and watch a gameplay video.

Graphics: The graphics are pretty, but unfortunately, there are too many on-screen colors to see enemies. Just take a look at this:

See that? Looks normal enough, right? Well, sure it does...except when your running 100 MPH in game, then you can't tell what's going on. Even when your moving slow, you can't tell what's going on.

Final Result: This game is HARD. It is not easy in any way, and it's way too cheap to be considered good. Sorry Bubsy, but maybe you should stay away from storybooks. I hereby dub this not a fractured furry tale, but a fucked up furry tale.

Score: 4.5/10
