Wobble's NES RGB mod.

Post by Wobble The Hutt »

so far so good, got the amps built last night, the ppu was installed a week or so ago. also i replaced the 74LS373P with a 74HC373AP as suguested by this thread

http://nesdev.parodius.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?p=34542&sid=a9a1ff94fcdf1708a8b0ccbb9464c3e3

to make it compatible with the NES powerpak after mod.

im using an GBS-8220 as an up converter right now. it looks fine but has some tearing issues. getting a different box soon.

heres a photo of wood mans level :)

next up is redoing the cart connector (going to take two cut them in half and wire them together so that games work more reliably), disable the CIC chip, and add SNES controller ports. when thats done expect more pics. also after all those mods are completed. ill probably remove the RF box and install a jrok RGB to composite and svideo encoder board, to re enable composite output.

i am not planning on doing a stereo mod, the nes isn't stereo and down mixed, it was never designed to have left and right audio channels so i don't see the point

if anyone can confirm the replacement of that chip fixing powerpak comparability issues that would be great.

updated: thanks GSZX1337 for telling me where photobucket burries the thumbnail links!

Basically you take a PPU from a Playchoice 10, and replace the NES PPU with that. Then build an RGB amplifier, and magic happens!

In Photobucket, click Link options and you'll get a Share this image pop-up which will show you the code for thumbnails.

Just posted this for another member.

You could reduce the image size to 700 wide, so it won't stretch the margins.

If Mac use iPhoto, save as a JPG and set your size.

If PC use Infraview, powerful light freeware.

A pic posted directly here is better then a thumbnail and or link to a photo site.

Re: Wobble's NES RGB mod. NOW WITH SNES PORTS

Post by Wobble The Hutt »

functional SNES ports, you can also still use the original ports, hooking up both an SNES and an NES controller to the same port number is not advised.

they came out better than i expected but not as good as i hoped :)

DB-9 in the back for RGB out and audio as well, using my personal pinout.

Sexy as all hell. Please explain the SNES ports on the NES. I know they both use the same protocol, but what did you do to get this to work? Pics of the inside would be nice.

its literaly just a y cable electrically at this point for each port, when poking around the net i managed to from a bunch of different guides put togeather one good one for my self (ive found about 3 or 4 different methods of counting to 7 on the NES port pinout) i then ran wire from the SNES port pins to the back of the corresponding NES port pin, so you could use either or, when i go in to disable the CIC chip ill take some more pics. also id be happy to upload my wiring guide. :) i think ill do that tonight

EDIT: got around to it, enjoy the PDF included in the zip file.
