I wouldn't say it's better than Halo 1.Pulsar_t wrote:I still tell PC fanatics that Crysis was more about visual fidelity than gameplay prowess, but even that is a far better game than Halo1/2/3/ODST.

Haven't seen a triple-A title fare badly in reviews this generation anyway.

Considering Microsoft is willing to pay for better reviews, I'm not surprised at all.jfrost wrote:Haven't seen a triple-A title fare badly in reviews this generation anyway.

Alright, all because the game isn't your cup of tea doesn't mean that Microsoft is committing bribery. I don't enjoy gran tourismo but I can certainly acknowledge that there is a reason why it consistently scores so well.Ack wrote:Considering Microsoft is willing to pay for better reviews, I'm not surprised at all.jfrost wrote:Haven't seen a triple-A title fare badly in reviews this generation anyway.
It always seems that there has to be some god damned iconoclastic view between us gaming enthusiasts. If something get's good marks and is successful, is it some sort of blow to our ego?
I've grown up on FPS. Starting from doom onward and even backwards. Wolf 3d is not as good as halo. It may have been important, but that doesn't mean it's as enjoyable.
Halo is a solid built game, it's a game that brought the type of gaming we have been experiencing for years to the masses. If you're wondering why so many people say it's the best game ever it's because it's the first of it's kind that they have experienced. Timesplitters wasn't as solid or as deep, goldeneye wasn't as solid or as deep, nothing on consoles was at the time, and consoles are where this generation of gamers usually start. I can't honestly say that i think the game is better than System Shock 2, but I can easily say that it is one of the best franchises to come out in the past 2 generations.
If you can tell me what is so wrong about halo, aside from plot (which I think is solid and certainly gets the job done. If you were expecting James Joyce, why would you ever buy a game with someone pointing a gun at you in the cover, it's a the gaming equivalent to an action movie.) and controls (because honestly, before reading this board, I had never heard of this complaint before. Ever.) Please, I'd like to know.
Getting back on topic, after playing the beta I am extremely stocked. I love the new game types, especially the one modeled after tribes II's siege mode. That, along with forge world, firefight, the campaign, the usual multiplayer options, a new theatre mode, space battles... there's so much crap in this game in box that it's one of the few titles that I can justify paying $60 for. I'm even midnighting it... albeit the store is located across the street.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?

Wait this is based on...?
Re: Halo: Reach
A few years ago it was let out that when reviews were finished, Microsoft was unhappy with some of the scores one of the Halo games had received. So they offered money to Gamespot to up the scores.yomomma1 wrote:Ack wrote:Considering Microsoft is willing to pay for better reviews, I'm not surprised at all.jfrost wrote:Haven't seen a triple-A title fare badly in reviews this generation anyway.

Then again, when you have stuff like that reviewer getting canned several years ago for giving too low a score to Kane & Lynch, you learn not to place too much credence on reviews.

And still to this day, there's no FPS as solid or as deep.AwesomeMonstar wrote: Timesplitters wasn't as solid or as deep, goldeneye wasn't as solid or as deep, nothing on consoles was at the time
I still think Halo 1's plot is in the top 5 video game plots of all time.AwesomeMonstar wrote: If you can tell me what is so wrong about halo, aside from plot (which I think is solid and certainly gets the job done. Also keep in mind that I am NOT a Halo fanboy at all. I actually hated Halo 2 and thought Halo 3 was just okay. I just REALLY like the first one.

That really sounds like nothing more than neogaf speculation. Show some proof aside from Gertsmangate.Ack wrote:
