Let's be honest here. Music has been shit for at least 10 years now. The last truly original rock band was Faith No More and the last truly original pop band was the Talking Heads. They were both formed in the 70's and 80's. A long time ago...

i will agree with you that a lot of music is generic, uninspired, and shallow. but when i go to bars i WANT to hear music with a good beat. and honestly, katy perry, miley cyrus, lady gaga, etc all have some pretty catchy songs. nothing kills the mood/vibe inside a bar when some idiot decides to play some killswitch engage.

That's a very bold statement. I can think of a handful of bands that are in the rock and pop genres that are original and have formed since then.

It only holds true if you're talking about major label / radio music.
