Re: Kirby's Epic Yarn
If Epic Yarn didn't have new mechanics, people would complain that it wasn't as good as Dream Land, Adventure, and Crystal Shards, or a rehash thereof. Since it does, people complain because he doesn't suck up enemies like he always does. I personally am a fan of seeing something new. I mean, look at Paper Mario- who would have thought the concept would work like it did?

Paper Mario didn't come out under the presumption that its gameplay style would set the precedent for all games to follow, it was a spinoff title from the very beginning and everybody was aware of this going in.
Come on now, we've been waiting nearly 10 years for a new console Kirby platformer, I don't think it's too much to have expected something a bit more... traditional. At the very least, I don't think Kirby fans were waiting for a game that tossed out one of the most defining aspects of the series. It's not like the series is over-saturated or anything, there's still plenty of room for expanding and innovating its basic formula.
As for the idea that people would be complaining if it had stuck to the old stealing powers thing, I doubt it. Nobody's complaining about Donkey Kong Country Returns and only a very small fraction complained about New Super Mario Bros. Wii when it came out. Hell, look at the entire Mega Man series.
Don't get me wrong here, this game DOES look cool. I'm very much looking forward to it and definitely plan on buying it whenever I can, I just sort of feel (and I doubt I'm alone here) that we're still waiting for a proper new Kirby game.
