Spray painted dreamcasts.

Post by Demented Collector »

Recently bought 13 DCs described as spares or repair.

Took them home and swapped a few laser and controller ports around and ended up with 9 working ones. :D

Even after cleaning i was disapointed with the look of some of them.

I remembered i had some spray paint in the garage and got to work.

The first console got the works i.e. primer, paint and laquer.

I left the first console outside to dry and various things settled on it which affected the finish. :?

The second console was only spray painted, i had run out of primer and laquer.

I don't think they are really needed.

I also placed it in a closed cardboard box to dry.

So using the small amount of black metallic paint left over from the first console and a tin of green paint, which was a horrible green on it's own, i made...

A console dedicated to the mighty game known as..

SEAMAN

I'm thinking about douing a pink sakura wars one and maybe spraying a controller or two. :D

Enjoy

Nice looking paint jobs. Was it easy to do? I'm definitely inspired to try something like this myself.

Yeah quite easy.

THE DCs are easy to dismantle and assemble.

It can be a pain waiting for it to dry, never been a patient person  , so you can spay the other side of the lid.

Only bits that needed to be covered up was the logo on the lid and the felt pads inside.

Then its spray time, which is best done in a dust free place.

Your'e never going to spray every nook and cranny with one coat so allow about 30 minutes between each coat to let the paint dry a bit, as said stick the bits in a closed cardboard box to dry off.

If you mask off any bits try to remove the tape just after spraying to stop it peeling the dried paint away.

HTH.

What? That green isn't terrible. Heck, it looks more or less like British Racing Green. They look good sir. :)

Just general spray paint in a rattle can, like you would use for spraying a car.

I got the green one out of a skip.

Regarding the "terrible green", i imagined that if i had only used the green the console wouldn't have looked as unique as it does with the metallic black, not my cup of tea, green mix.

Waits for the green brigade to shoot me down.

Just had an idea.

The green one would look cool with a green power LED in it. 8)

Off to Maplin tomorrow i think.
