Best multiplayer family/christmas fun on dreamcast

Post by gord »

Hi, i love my dreamcast and i especially love the four controler ports on it at when my family gets together, but alas the same old games are getting a bit boring.
So i am wondering if anyone knows any good ideas for family friendly fun (ie: unreal/quake3 = nah, revolt/co-op games = yeah!) in both great retail dreamcast games and stuff made by the scene? (emulators and such included if anyone knows some gtreat emulatable games that work well on the dc).
generally we are talking about four player compatible games :)

Revolt, Powerstone 2, Tennis 2K2/Virtua Tennis, Bomberman Online....

I've been meaning to put together a Dreamcast multiplayer guide as this topic keeps coming up :)

http://www.actsofgord.com/ Love the Gord. Fear the Gord.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Ooga Booga is pretty obvious but still great fun. These are the games I think have the best multiplayer experience with 4 players.
Bomberman
Bust a Move 4*
Chu Chu Rocket
Fur Fighters
Gauntlet Legends
Looney Toons Space Race
MVC
Ooga Booga
Proppeller Arena*
Wacky Races
Worms World Party

The ones marked with an asterisk may or may not be 4 player.. As far as homebrew goes I'm pretty sure all of the BoR mods support up to 3 players.

Chuchu Rocket and Bomberman for the casual crowd
Propeller Arena, Toy Commander, and Rush 2049 for the gamers - tried to go with less obvious choices.

Propeller Arena is 4 player and does rock :)

Toy Commander is the shit.

Other 4-player games:
Test Drive LeMans
San Francisco Rush 2049 - Racing is fun but battle mode is a blast. Everyone can save their own cars and control configurations.
Mag Force Racing
Demolition Racer: No Exit - Great multiplayer demolition modes.

These games tend not to get the multi-player credit they deserve. I think they are incredible fun.

How could I forget Gauntlet? It is one of the reasons I bought one in the first place, played my copy till I could see through parts... I think a backup may be in short order.
