If you like horror literature, why not try reading some of the other big names in the genre? Stuff by Dean Koontz or Robert McCammon might be more your style, and there's lots of older material you might like. Perhaps the entirety of Thomas Harris' series revolving around Hannibal Lecter (yes, those films are based off his novels)?
As for movies and series, do you have Netflix? I'd be more than happy to give you some titles to check out, but I don't know if you'll be able to access many of them without it.

You like Slashers? We'll get along just fine!
also, for TBS, I loved Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. If you haven't played it, you must. Plus it starts with a SNOW-BALL FIGHT which might make you feel at home up there in MI.

Re: S.A.D. Recommendation Thread
I highly recommend Better Off Dead. A comedy starring John Cusack as a suicidal teenager.
It's hilarious, and I think Cusack's character might have a bit of S.A.D. as well.

Yeah, the winters are great for me. He did say he was willing to put up with all the crappy sequels, so I figured a few crappy remakes would be ok in his book.
