Removing Battery Acid Corrosion From NES Satellite

Post by Rurouni_Fencer »

A buddy of mine gave me his old NES Satellite the other day. Upon opening it up, well, I guess he forgot to take out the batteries when he was done with it - 15 years ago...

I was wondering if I can salvage this, or if it's now officially fubared. And if not, does anybody have any advice for properly removing dried up battery leakage from plastic surfaces. I feel it'd be a shame to have to toss out anything from the NES days of gaming..

Baking soda would be the first thing I try, other than the plastic being damaged, is it in working order?

I'm not really sure, since I'm hesitant to put new batteries in over top the corroded mess (I also don't have any C batteries lying about..)

I assume so, since it worked fine the last time it was used.

Vinegar soaked Q-Tip for the contacts and such should help.

That's probably going to need to be opened up to clean properly. Need to see if the contacts are even still there or rusted away and need to be replaced, or if they can be cleaned up. It can probably be cleaned up to work again though.

Yeah, you definitely have to open it up and take it apart.
