There are other RPG series which are lesser known and could use some good remakes. The original Grandia would be an excellent title to see remade on PSP or DS. In fact, having 2 screens, one of which you could dedicate do character info or maps and the like, makes the DS a great place to do remakes. I know the original code for Panzer Dragoon Saga is supposedly lost, but if they have the art and music properties still it could still conceivably be remade. Use stills and text to replace the CG segments. I bet the DS could come close to handling the 3D requirements. Beyond that, the early Lufia games might be worth revisiting as well.
I should also note that it's a shame Squeenix is putting so much focus on Final Fantasy Tactics. Great game, yes, but the engine sprung from Quest originally with the Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre series. Time to see Tactics Ogre return as well. Squeenix could use it to play with the tactical combat medium, break new ground and test new ideas and leave the same-old same-old to FF Tactics.
Any thoughts? Any important bits I missed?
Final Fantasy isn't the only RPG worthy of being remade.
i'd like someone to point me to a tactics game that is better than FF Tactics for PSX. It's easily the game that holds the largest number of hours played for me. The FF tactics game for GBA was so/so.. I'm playing Fire Emblem right now for Wii and it's just OK. Any thoughts? Are the tactics ogre games better? I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I think I might be.

I recently (like some days ago) beat Tactics Ogre for GBA my second time - shortly after I had finished it the first time (took the 2 different paths). I was almost thinking I should play a third time just for kicks. It's an amazing game, much better than FFTA IMO.marurun wrote:Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis on the GBA is quite fun. I didn't beat it because you have to basically spend a long time in the last few battles. But I'll go back to it someday. Much more fun than FF Tactics Advance on the GBA. More focused.
I haven't played the originals (FFT, and other TOs), but it seems to me that TOs have the better tactical engine. Stuff seems to make more sense.
Ivo.

Agreed. Seems weird that other companies havent tried to "cash in" on porting old rpgs to the DS.(I think there was a thread in these forums about the lack of rpgs on the DS)marurun wrote:There are other RPG series which are lesser known and could use some good remakes. I would love to see games like Landstalker, Shining Force 3, Soliel or Secret of Mana 1 on the DS.
Perhaps with Nintendo releasing their own flash cards for the DS, they may allow VC downloaded games to be transferred to work on the DS?

There are already RPGs being remade for the DS and PSP. The PSone Star Ocean games are coming to the PSP and a year or so again Valkryie Profile was slightly updated and ported over to the PSP.
There was another big PSone RPG that was going to be ported to the PSP but it didn't fit Sony's development conditions (they don't like PSone ports, the games must have additional content).

They did re-release alot of great stuff for PS2, but only in Japan. I don't have any "next gen" consoles and it seems they are putting all the retro stuff on the Virtual Consule rather than an official release. To bad there isn't company that could re-make some 8 or 16 bit stuff and release them on Dreamcast. Just hombrew stuff mostly, no "offical" games! Suppose it's just not pratical to make games for dicontinued hardware.
