I thought i had beat this game before a couple times. lol. I didn't even know about the inverted castle part of the game until this play through
I rented the game when it first came out and got as far as i could before i had to return it. A couple years later i borrowed the game from a friend and "beat" it. I also played it on my PS2 a couple years ago and "beat" it. I always just got the bat then beat Richter and thought that was it haha. This time i was a bit more thorough and was shocked to see a whole new part of the game. I had to cheat a bit to beat Galamoth hehe
Anyways is there any point in playing any of the games between SOTN and the GBA games? I have played a bit of each GBA game and they are pretty awesome. I have also played around with most of the games between SOTN and the GBA series and .. well .. meh .. Am i wrong?
The best ones are probably on the Nintendo DS I'd say. Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia
In my humble opinion though, Symphony will always be the best of the breed of Metroidvania platformers it spawned
And Symphony of the Night IS a platformer. The bulk of the gameplay is you jumping around on platforms. Sure it has rpg elements and whatnot, but the castlevania series has always been a platformer at heart, just like Mega Man.
You'd be surprised how many subgenres platformers have

Seriously. Screw you Shao Kahn I'm gonna play Animal Crossing.
Congrats! The inverted castle is a blast. Just out of curiosity, what exactly did you have to do to beat Galamoth? He is actually one of the more intriguing characters in Castlevania lore IMO. Main villain in the Kid Dracula spin-off, and an awesome looking boss in SotN.
*Edit. Almost forgot the GBA/DS games!
I would definitely recommend playing Rondo of Blood next if you haven't already. It's more of a traditional Castlevania game, and its hard as balls, but definitely feels worth the effort when you finally beat it. If you can't get access to the super expensive Turbo-CD version, it has been ported the PSP and is also available via Wii Virtual Console.
Circle of the Moon for the GBA is fun, and definitely worth playing if you enjoyed SotN. It's not quite as good, and the story is meh, but its still a solid Castlevania game.
Harmony of Dissonance was my least favorite in the series. Too confusing for my tastes, and its lacking in story and atmosphere. Skip it if you want, you wont really be missing much.
Aria of Sorrow is awesome, and is just as good as SotN IMO. PLAY IT! You won't be disappointed.
Dawn of Sorrow is even better than Aria of Sorrow IMO. It's a direct sequel and the graphics and the overall atmosphere make a great game even better.
Portrait of Ruin is one of my favorites in the series. The story is great and the various settings keep it feeling fresh. I also really loved switching between the two characters on the fly. Keep in mind, I'm in the minority here. Most people seem to dislike those aspects for some reason.
Order of Eclessia is another one of my favorites in the series. The story and setting are different enough to keep the series from feeling stale.
Last but not least, Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid: Fusion are both VERY fun games that play a lot like the Castlevania games. They don't call them Metroidvania games for nothing! I can't vouch for Super Metroid, but I'm actually going to start it tonight.

If you equip the Beryl Circlet when you fight him you can absorb his lightning attacks (heals you). Then you just basically stand in one spot and slash till he dies lol
Thanks for all the info .. i just started playing Circle of the Moon.
Dawn of Sorrow is the Best Castlevania game, I only have 2 slight problems with it.
1) The main character. Dear god. Alucard was so cool. Heck the game's belmont is cooler than Sora.
2) The stylus magic seals. Honest to god it took me a month to get the hang of exactly what speed the game wanted me to draw the seal in. So I'd end up killing a boss like 10 times and failing to do the seal and it would resurrect grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Using the shield rod is always a sure fire way to beat Galamoth, heh. I didn't know about that lightning absorption thing though, interesting.
I'd definitely look into Rondo of Blood as mentioned on here, it's Dracula X Chronicles for PSP. It's the actual predecessor to Symphony of the Night, so that might interest you. The cool thing about the PSP game is that it contains both a remade one and the original game.
I was kind of turned off by Dawn/Aria of Sorrow myself, mostly because I felt the story and characters were silly. It just really doesn't feel like Castlevania at all. The gameplay is decent though, I did finish Aria of Sorrow so I'm not just bashing it or anything. To me, Circle of the Moon and Order of Ecclesia are pretty easily the best of the "hand held Symphony of the Night successors" group.
