Legend of the Dragoon

Post by JC48573 »

1. What did you like or didn't like about the game?
2. Should they do a remake, sequel, or just stay dead?
3. Do you want Sony or some other developer like level 5 to pick up the franchise?

Yea, I figured I create a topic about this game just to see how people feel about the game after many years.

I liked the game back in the day. I've been meaning to check it out again and give it another play-through.

Main thing that drew me to the game was the art style and, back then, the graphics. I wasn't too sure about the battle system at first, but I recall it growing on me once I got the timing down.

I don't really remember the story being the best (since I don't remember much about it,) but FF VIII was pretty good at overshadowing it at the time. It did hold my attention though enough to finish the game, which says something about it.

At this point, I'd just like to see it released on PSN as a psone classic. Not sure anything else would ever get green-lit.

I think this game is great, and it seems to have a mainstream appeal/acknowledgement that PS1 RPGs don't usually have. Many of my friends, not being RPG fans at all, have played this and liked it a lot. It's got everything you can ask for in an RPG, memorable locales, good music score, fun and interesting battle system, cool characters, etc. I think it deserves a slight revival by being released as a PS1 classic too. I can't imagine any continuations or remakes though. If any developer was ever going to do something like that, it'd probably be on PSP already. It will always stand among the greats in the library of PS1 RPGs though.

omg do i have beef with this game or what.

Actually. I love-hate this game.
I don't know exactly what about it tbh sometimes.

But okay. I liked the characters.
I got use to the battling system and actually like it also, when I got the timing down.

I remember kind of being annoyed with not being able to find something or know what to do next. (Or maybe taht was just me.. I can't remember since I played this game only once back in...2000-ish)

It was long. For me. (Or maybe it was just slow?) And I was thoroughly disappointed by the end. The dubbing was HORRIBLE. It almost made me cry. I felt like I waste my life on that game for such a disappointing ending.

I hated the fact that you are "dragoons" but when it would've be most useful (i.e. boss fights) you could NOT transform into your dragoon-ish self.

Sorry for my vagueness but I haven't played it in a long time. And I think I tried to forget about it.

Over the past...however many years, I have thought about playing it again but I could never get myself to do it.

Oh and with that all being said- yeah sure, another dragoon game would be cool. Maybe it'll be better. another developer perferably.

I liked the game for the most part, and the combat system was entertaining to me. My biggest complaint for the title was that the story seemed to bog down in the second disc. The first went by just fine, the third picked up the pace, and the fourth seemed to fly by, but that second disc just felt like it crawled. I kept at it though, and I felt pretty good about it by the end.

I never beat it unfortunately, I got to Disc 2 and let it sit around until I completely forgot what was going on. The combat was pretty fun and the graphics were definitely great for their time.
The story was interesting but the sporadic amounts of broken English and poor writing hurt it for me.
I sold my copy and I kinda wish I didn't because I might've gone back to it one day. Might get it again though I do hope it ends up on PSN since I'd love to have it portable as well.

I loved this game. I really liked the battle system and although it wasn't perfect, the timed combo attacks were fun. I like it when jrpgs try something a little more engaging like Shadow Hearts and Legend of Dragoon. Just like being able to hit R1 with Squall in Final Fantasy 8. The game was gorgeous, the music was awesome, and it had a particular kind of charm to it. I would like a remake by sony. I think they could do something interesting with it. Not sure if I want any of the other typical japanese rpg studios to touch it though.

This is definitely true. I have a friend who really isn't a gamer at all, and for the most part doesn't like RPGs, who rates this as his favorite game of all time.

I tried playing through it a few years ago, but stopped somewhere in the second disc. I'm sure if I tried now I would finish it, since I'm a lot more diligent about finishing games, but nevertheless the game didn't feel like anything extraordinary. The battle system was fun, but once the charm of hitting X as a square appears on your screen wore off, the battles seemed a bit shallow - there's really very little to do aside from attack and occasionally throw a potion at someone. On top of this, there's pretty much no out-of-battle character customization. This works fine for shorter games (I'm not going to claim that Super Mario RPG is incredibly deep), but for a 4-disc epic, I'd like to have a bit more depth to keep the game from becoming stale.

As other people have said, though, the music and graphics were great, and the story, though I didn't get too far into it, was interesting. I plan on going back and playing through it in full some day, but it's not really near the top of my list.
I'm known as ZebetiteGlitch or Zeza Von Thantos on other platforms.

I thought it was good, solid rpg all around. I found getting perfect combos in the battle system addicting. Shadow Hearts did remind me of this game with its combat system

The character designs are cool. I actually found a cool figurine of Rose at a Gamestop many years ago that I bought. Looks just like the ingame model. The little indicator letting you know when you were about to engage in combat was a nice idea too

This game is one that I really got into and just spent hours to beat it. So satisfying when the last slash animated to signify it was all done. In the end, I enjoyed it and maybe later on will replay it.
