Y's Seven PSP

Post by Shabba »

Anyone else get this today? I'm not one to pre-order games, but I did in this case and picked up the limited edition release. Neat box and a nice book with some cool artwork.

The game itself is pretty cool. I've been able to play it for about 15 minutes so far.

I'm waiting patiently for the US PSN update, and provided it's a fair price, will probably pick it up. I've tried hard to stay away from most video of the game so as not to spoil it.

How is the battle system? Random battles? Good ratio of battles to exploration?

Well, I've had 15 minutes with it. It's similar to Ark in some ways...so far, I'm pleased but I imagine I will have more to say by tonight...

What killed the other Ys PSP game for me was those stupid trials. The thumb pad is just not precise enough for that nonsense.
I have a ton of games listed at my store's site: Super Smash Video Games

I'm all about JRPGs on PSP but I don't know about this one. I definitely want to hear some feed back.

I am stoked for Valkyria Chronicles II though.

Ok I had some time to play tonight and get to the first boss (who kicked my ass twice before I said fuck it). The battle system is pretty neat and fairly simple. You have a straight attack, a charged attack (where you hold the button and charge the weapon) and a skill set/skill attack. The skill attack is based on the weapon you are currently using and can be used a number of times that corresponds to the number of skill "points" you get during an attack. I believe you can hold 9 skill attacks at once and when an enemy drops these skill points, it refills you (to the max 9). The skill set thing reminds me of Final Fantasy II where you only increased an attribute by either using it or having it taken from you (by being attacked, your stamina would increase for instance). Again, very simple and fun to use.

You start out with 2 characters, Adol and Dogi of course, and can apparently build it to several members though I dont know how many yet. The world is abso-fucking-lutely one of the largest I have seen in a game. The map that came in my special edition set is basically a map of Europe, western asia and northern africa, all named something else of course (Europe is Europ, Africa is Afroca or Afroka, I can't remember).

I'll be putting some more time into it tomorrow. I can't believe I'm the only one here to get it so far. The gamestop I bought it from said I was the only one who pre-ordered it. In Richmond. Out of over a million people, I was the only one? That can't bode well for the sales...

I've been able to play into about the 3rd boss battle and I really, really enjoy this game. The battle system has really grown on me and the battles themselves are so much fun. The story is drawing me in and the characters are developing well. I'm impressed.

Anyone else at all buy this game?
