The disc actually only spins on boot -- you can remove it from the drive while you're using the player.

this is correct. It's completely possible to play Tilt N Rumble. It's just... dumb.

Or completely awesome manipulating a platinum cube as your controller.

any game with an accelerometer or solar sensor in it doesn't really work on the GBP. The GBA video episodes don't work either, which is honestly kind of dumb (though I see their reasoning).

The reason you couldn't play Tilt n Rumble on a DS versus a GBA is the fact that the cart is upside down. Since you're not trying to look at a screen you could just turn the GC around so the game is pointed away from you. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to play the solar games if you wanted to sit next to a window or on your patio playing.
