I haven't been thrilled with any of the straight to video comic book cartoons I've seen. They're somewhat entertaining I guess, but they always feel like a cash in. They usually end at about 70 minutes, which is half the time of the average (good) comic book movie.

I wonder if they'll ever do a straight to video live action movie based on any characters? I mean what's the budget of these animated films? A few million? A tv show like heroes was about a million for a 45 minute episode, so I think they could do it.

On that topic, I just want a good live action superhero tv show. Based on a real comic. None of this "No ordinary family" or "The Cape" crap.

Note, I will gladly swallow my words if either of those shows turn out to be good, but right now they look exactly like what they are; Major tv network's risk averse ideas of what superheroes are.

Hell, I could even add Buffy and Angel to the mix. Though traditional DC, Marvel and other well known comic book characters don't seem to do too well as live action shows. I'm not counting classic stuff like Lou Ferrigno's Hulk, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman or Green Hornet as those shows are too cheesy for modern audiences.

They tried a Birds of Prey show that wasn't too successful and Witchblade didn't do too great either. It does seem odd that traditional comic book characters are doing great in Hollywood movies but haven't successfully transitioned to successful tv series, as the format seems more conducive to comic book stories than movies. I mean wouldn't Y:The Last Man work better as a show than the proposed movie I've heard of?

This might make for an interesting topic/thread of its own actually

The last two-thirds of From Dusk Till Dawn. Started right when they gotbto the Titty Twister.

As for live-action superhero shows, first season of Power Rangers tied with VR Troopers, but the oringinal J-hero shows are better.

And I have an idea for a Batman-based series starring a reformed Edward Nygma.

Predators: Miles better than the Alien vs. Predator films. It's not as good as the original, but it's finally a Predator sequel I don't want to pretend doesn't exist. I'm not real crazy about the addition of a separate distinct race of Predator in the film, but at least they made that aspect of the movie somewhat interesting. My only other complaint is some jerk talking on his phone in the theater.

The Square. An aussie thriller that starts out promising but loses its edge when it starts resorting to contrived plot twists that get worse as we approach its predictable ending. The best thing about the film is that unlike most titles involving geometric shapes it has nothing supernatural about it

I spoke with Savini at this year's DragonCon. He says more people die in the first five minutes of Machete than any film he's ever worked on, and that the movie thoroughly kicks ass. I was going to see it anyway, but with his approval, I'm even more thrilled.

Can't get more solid a recommendation than that. A friend of mine went and saw it and she loved it. Said Jessica Alba gets naked too

I think she covers all her naughty parts though :(

Anything from Robert Rodriguez or Quentin Tarantino is worth checking out in my opinion. I dug From Dusk til Dawn. Need to watch that again some time.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I liked the movie. I think that seeing it so late, after all the hype died down, made the difference. I went in expecting an action and special effects packed movie about giant living robots that transform into various things and that's what I got.

How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. This was a good film. I am a huge fan of Simon Pegg and I thought this was a nice simple comedy with a good cast. I really like Jeff Bridges in this movie, which is weird because he usually drives me nuts. Kirsten Dunst was cute as hell too - she is one of those who looks really good sometimes and really weird other times. Not sure if that makes sense.
