There's a market for everything, it seems.
@Reverend
Yeah, I'll second that recommendation. Dokuro-chan was a lot of fun.

Sadly, yes. They're one of the reasons why anime has become downright degenerate.AppleQueso wrote:there are folks who actually seek out anime with excessive fanservice?

Tatami Galaxy is a recent anime that I can safely recommend. Not an 'action' anime per se, though.

Re: Looking for anime recommendations...
I checked out all of your suggestions and so far Negima, Strike Witches, and Kino's Journey all look good as well as Highschool of the Dead (Good work The7K
). Sadly I can't seem to find a listing for Highschool of the Dead on Amazon.com. Does anyone know of another good place for buying anime DVD's and things? I know of E-Bay obviously but I'm a bit skeptical of that place, but I will go there if I must. Also with a little side-research of my own I came across the anime Kanokon. It looks amazing but Amazon doesn't have a listing for it's second DVD. The first is up for sale and the third is available for pre-order currently but there's no listing for the DVD with episodes 5-8. Once again, is E-Bay my only option?
EDIT: The DVD versions of these wouldn't be censored would they? I just wanted to check because that would ruin the point somewhat.

I just started watching Robotech: The Macross Saga today via Netflix. I never saw the whole thing before.
Re: Looking for anime recommendations...
I was honestly done with Bleach, as it just hasn't been nearly as good as it used to be (plus that first opening animation wrote a check the series couldn't cash)... then I saw this. Mmm Mmm Good.benderx wrote:Bleach is pretty good series considering it has ghosts, monsters, samurai, and blood.
Oh yeah, I remember Kanokon! I only read the manga (and only read a couple of chapters), but it was pretty entertaining. As for Highschool of the Dead, it's pretty recent - I don't think there are any DVDs of it yet, but I know you can watch it streaming online off of whichever company's website has licensed it.MrEco wrote:I checked out all of your suggestions and so far Negima, Strike Witches, and Kino's Journey all look good as well as Highschool of the Dead (Good work The7K). Not sure about DVDs being censored or what have you. I wouldn't think so, but I have no idea.

...and one of the reasons I've all but completely abandoned the medium. I know fanservice has pretty much always existed in some form in anime, and I've always been able to tolerate it to an extent, but these days it seems like fanservice is especially excessive (no doubt due in part to the "Moe" fad that seems to be the rage now).Pulsar_t wrote:Sadly, yes. I've read somewhere that it's a sign that the industry itself might be in danger, that the whole Moe/excessive fanserive thing that's EVERYWHERE is something of a last ditch attempt to pander to the lowest common denominator. When this starts to fall out favor, there won't be anything to fall back on, and you'll basically have a genre that's dead in the water (though I doubt permanently).
I'm not trying to pass judgment on MrEco or anything, he can watch what he wants and that's his business, I'm just giving my thoughts on the state of a medium that's pretty much alienated me from it, and I'm sure I'm not alone there.
Re: Looking for anime recommendations...
I understand what you're saying, and to a small point I agree. The thing is that I personally enjoy both sides of the coin. The "lowest common denominator" type stuff as well as the good quality intelligent and interesting stuff. I'm like this with everything really. I love playing games like Dragon Age: Origin's but I'm OK with turning my mind off for a while and playing something like Halo as well. It's kind of interesting that in anime I sorta tend to go for the low brow stuff a bit more and just have some simple fun but with video games I'm kinda the opposite and usually go for the white collar stuff.AppleQueso wrote:...and one of the reasons I've all but completely abandoned the medium.
