I can believe that cd sales are more than digital
but I can't believe that cd sales are 80% of the market, and digital is only at %20.
But thats in 2006, we are four years later, its a huge difference.

I would say cd sales are at 40% now

somewhere between 2001-2002 , dvd surpassed vhs, and by 2005 vhs was pretty much dead.

So I am guessing CD-R's will be dead by 2015!?
5 years isn't that long for a medium to die,

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/cd-sales- ... rise/14758

cd sales are closer to 60% right now.

I still doubt we'll see cds vanish entirely unless we go totally vinyl for physical releases... which would be interesting.

Definitely impractical. I use them for music though. Try some men's underwear.

I believe it, since many of the digital songs downloaded are not of the legal sort AND there is the generation gap between those who use CD players vs iPods.

60% or 40%, that's still pretty healthy, in fact.

40% is only my opinion and what I think its not statistics

and as far being healthy, those are only MUSIC sales, they are not used any where else
and we know that number is going to shrink even more.
Plus, are the album cd's the same CD-R you pick off the shelf? or are they a little different?

and as for downloaded songs being pirated,
didn't Apple say that itunes is now they #1 music seller in the USA or something like that?

40 percent isn't something you can really define as an "opinion". It's like saying "my opinion is that 2+2=5".

Pressed CDs are created using a completely different manufacturing process than CD-Rs.

As for what Apple said, #1 music seller would be the key word. That doesn't account for illegal downloads. Besides you can't exactly trust a company to be impartial about its own success.

Dude, 2 + 2 = 12, man. Your opinion is wrong.

CD-Rs will never die... unless they get that DC loading from USB thing working.
Thanks everyone...

I work for the US government and our computers prohibit using USB drives but allow burning CD-Rs. So CD-R manufacturers still make a lot of money from us. Just a few weeks ago I just sorted a huge stake of CD-Rs.
