I want to play Lode Runner the legend returns/online dammit!

Post by Jrecee »

I found it at http://www.daggert.net/Folio/Programmin ... unner1.htm. Free.

Radical!

Download. Unzip. Install. . . nope. Can't run on 64 bit windows. Ok fine. I go to an older computer running Windows XP 32 bit. Download. Unzip. Install. Passes all tests. Game installed. Click on game to play. Nope. I apparently need windows 95 or better. Riiight. . .

So how the hell can I play this game other than travelling back in time and buying a $1200 compaq presario with an 8 gig hdd and windows 95?

It probably won't work, but you could try setting the compatibility mode to windows 95 or 98 or whatever.

Or VMWare I guess, if you really really want to play it

I'm on 32 bit XP Pro. It complained at me too, but I set to run in 95 compatibility and it ran great, other than being a ridiculous little bit in the middle of my 1600x1200 screen.

Hmm. I didn't realize XP had compatibility modes. I tried that on Windows 7 but still got the 64 bit error that means I can't even install it. It installed fine on XP but wouldn't run once installed. I'll try again.

I went back and found it in the start menu, went into compatibility, and it was preselected to run in windows 95 mode. Clicked it and it worked. Weird.

That selection defaults to showing 95 out of the choices on XP. Anyway, glad you got it working.

It's awesome. Nostalgia high. Making levels is still as fun as I remember it in 1996. Wish I could get it to work on my computer though. Maybe it's just the installer? I might try just taking all the installed files and copying them onto this computer.

Which edition of Windows 7 do you have? If you have the ultimate edition, you could try to run it inside XP in Virtual PC.

Lode Runner Online is awesome game. I think I'm around level 170 or so the last time I played it. When I get home, I'll see if I can get it to work on my Win 7 laptop.

@hobie - I usually do full screen mode which works pretty well.

It was full screened. The game was in the middle with a pattern filling the rest of the space around it. No biggie as I was just testing and doubt I will actually getting around to play it.

I only got up to level 10 or so. I was never sure how many levels there were total. The version I used to play was The Legend Returns. I think online/mad monk's revenge has extra levels. I ended up messing with the level creator more than playing the actual game, which is the same thing I did back in the day too. I'm going to try to get further in the actual game though.

I just have the basic version of windows 7 so no virtual pc.

I don't think there is a way to stretch the actual gameplay field to full screen. Even when I used to play it on my dad's old computer with low resolution, it had the pattern around it.
