I'm 30. Grew up on the classics, continue to be one of those people who hacks all of their current systems just to be able to play with yet another SNES emulator. Hah!

It's hard to get younger folks to play some NES today (for example) unless they have some sort of deeper appreciation for gaming. They look crappy and sound like dirt in comparison to what's available today, gameplay be damned. Facts are facts, right? It's hard to look at it from the perspective of someone who's first console was a PlayStation, you know?

For me, nostalgia is definitely a huge factor, but generally masked by an ENORMOUS pair of rose-coloured glasses. I had the opportunity to go back and watch some old transformers cartoons recently, and man, they suck! Why do I have such fond memories of it when it is so utterly bad? The same applies to many games from my past too. I remember playing Ironsword on my NES for days at a time -- I load that sucker up now and want to chuck it out the damn window.

Sorry for rambling, but it's hard to give you a clear-cut answer. Yes, there's definitely nostalgia at play in my age group, but it's not always good nostalgia I guess.

I'm 20 but most of my friends these days are in their late 20s/early 30s. I swear I would've been better off being born 5 years earlier at least.

I'm 18 now. I started getting retro games with the Nintendo 64, because I always wanted one but never had one when I was younger (my first system was a Game Boy Color in 99 and my first console was a PS2 in 02) It kind of just snowballed from their. A bought a friends Dreamcast, then a GameCube so on and so on.

Another reason why I got into Retro gaming was because for the most part, it is usually cheaper than buying current gen stuff. Why only get one new PS3 game when you can get a huge stack of old Atari, Nintendo and Sega carts?
NES, SNES, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GCN, Wii, PS3, 360, GB, GBC, GBA, GBA SP, PSP 3000, and 3DS XL

Im 26

For me i lost interest in newer games around the middle of the ps2/xbox/gamecube era. I enjoyed alot of the games for those systems, but i still have numerous titles that i never played much or even played, ive always spent most of my time on super nintendo/nes stuff. Now im getting into ps1 and saturn games again.
Current Systems: Nes (original and Messiah), PC Engine Duo R, Snes, Genesis, Sega CD, 32X, CD-I, GB, Game Gear, GBA, Virtual Boy, PS1, Saturn, N64, PS2, Dreamcast, Xbox, Gamecube, PSP, DS, Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, 3DS

I'm 32 and started gaming back in '83, somethin' somethin'

I've grown up mainly with the C64/Atari2600, but all my friends had NES, etc. hence I've grown up playing all those consoles

main reason I'm into collecting these days, is because I grew up poor, thus couldn't afford all those consoles/computers

now that I'm older, I'm still poor as hell, but at least I can get myself a new console about once/year and a new game/accessory about once/month

I do have the nostalgia factor as well, but with my latest acquisition the NES Advantage, my old NES feels like it's brand new

even-though my main interest is in the Commodore 64/128/Amiga 500/1200, I am still very fond of my consoles

about a year ago I got my very first Dreamcast, which has gotten more lovin' than most of my consoles

I collect games/consoles/accessories/computers, because some day I'll be old, living in a retirement-home; imagine then how much fun we oldies will have when I've gathered 30-40 consoles and a bunch of computers!

it'll be a blast to grow old with me =)

I would think most retro gamers would be over 20. But it's nice to see some of the younger crowd likes older games. I'm barely over 30 btw.
Thanks everyone...
