I think that the older gaming population don't expect younger gamers to collect retro games and IMO that's a misconception. They say that it's the nostalgia factor that makes them love their nes or genesis, but how about people who received consoles as hand me downs? Anyways, my point is younger gamers can appreciate the same titles as older gamers.

agreed.
Yet, younger people are more likely to be influenced by marketing/peer pressure to play the latest garbage that comes out. That´s why I do not see alot of really young dudes on this board.
I think the older generation will applaud the younger generation liking games of yesteryear. Will make us look less like old clueless hasbeens who don´t understand modern games or something.
For me personal I have nothing with retro were it not that the current gen games just plain SUCK.
There I said it. There were already retro dudes in the 90´s I didn´t really understand them. Now I can understand them a bit since really old 80´s retro games are more about simplicity.
But for me it´s al about the 90´s gameplay with a bit of the late 80´s and beginning of the 00´s.
In about a months´ time my age will be that of the first cd of the Wu Tang Clan

Re: Racketboy member ages
When I first got into the retro stuff I admit I was largely driven by nostalgia, but that has faded away really and the main reason I play old things is to enjoy genres that have died or evolved over the years.
I guess its the same as films - general/mainstream film fans arent normally prepared to watch black and white films, but the hardcore will not let such an issue stand between them and enjoying the classics. I think games are reaching that stage where young fans who werent around when Donky Kong was the lastest thing out will start to visit those classics for themselves more and more.

I have my 29 year old feet firmly planted on both sides of the gaming fence. I spend equal ammounts of time playing retro and current generation stuff. I grew up with most of the gaming hardware that is considered retro now a days so I have no trouble bouncing between old and new games. Growing up in the 80s helped a ton.

I won't merge since it isn't the same, but FYI: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... hilit=poll
That's now two years old, and the membership/age has perhaps changed. Still, it was an interesting thread.

the other poll was a little "better" I think. I mean just an over/under 20 is pretty vague. Over 20 could be 30, 40, 50, etc. But then again, when you're a teenager I guess you don't trust anyone over 20.

Yeah, I'm only 21 and wouldnt class myself with the guys here in thier 30s. Being 21 means that the NES is still older than I am, and I didnt experience any of the Atari age first hand.

NES came out when I was two ... That was my most favourite baby sitter ever .
Re: Racketboy member ages
I'm fifty-two, but I preferred being eighteen, so I voted for under twenty.
